It's a bitch of a drive from up here but if you guys could share some of your secrets for where to stay/launch, we all would really appreciate it.................john

I'm sure everyone from SCJB would love to meet and boat you and others from the great wet north  ;D

And there is a good chance that 2Sav will have his boat done by Oct 09.

 ;D ;D ;D

It started out as just a kick around discussion and in less than an hour folks are jumping on......  Might be over the top cool if we can pull it off.  The drive SUCKS but iff'n theres some affordable motels/campgrounds/stripclubs where we can crash out that would help.

Love to finally hook up with you guys.  I'll be easy to spot me, I'll be the slowest one of the bunch...... :banghead:

This is gaining some momentum.  It's about a 1500 mile one way road trip so that's a drag but the thought of boating in October just seems so cool.  I'll definately keep you all in the loop as this gets further along.

Where is the best place to launch, are motels available or is camping the best?

For those running regular gas, are gas stations readily available?

John,

Y'all should consider the Bluewater Hotel & Casino for your accommodations, boat ramp, overnight docks, big parking lot, gas is right up the road in town, maybe 1/2 mile? There used to be a place in town that sold 110 fuel as well, not sure if it's still there. Crewchief would know better than anyone I s'pose.  I don't know about camping, I'm sure there's a grip of campgrounds.
Keep me posted on this, I'd love to go boating with ya

There is a couple places on the water in the Parker Strip to get fuel if necessary.  But if you can handle pulling out to refuel, most major brands are in town (Mobil, Texico, Arco) and Terrible Herbst has race fuel at the pump.

I launch from the blue water regardless , $8 to launch.
You can RVit in there parking lot too.
Definatly the nicest place around but the rates might be way out there .
I dont know what they charge in the off season .
During the summer it's $180 I think .
The Best Western is minutes away at half the price and an even deeper discount with AAA.
The also have a pretty good sized parking lot and a great mexican food joint literally in there parking lot .

You should look in to renting a house on the river or in the keys. I am not sure how much they run these days but a few years ago it wasnt too bad and we would pile alot of people into them

they're about $1200-1500 / week, most of them  only charge monthly rates but i think october is the start of thier "winter" rates, something to look into

bluewater would be sweet for them. the place has an indoor water slide and if you got kids, it's cheap, and it's where half of the race pics are at on this site

Parking would be the biggest problem I see with renting a house.

Hi Skip, yah, some of the gang had some minor flooding but knock on wood, doesnt sound too bad.  Between the heavy snow and then the hard rain, we've had our fair share of weather this year already.

Wish we could figure out how to send some water your way.

Thanks for the fuel tip Drifter

A pipeline to the north end of the Colorado River would be helpful  ;D

The trick is to bring the big trailer with 1 boat on the way down, pick up a couple boats down here and take them back and sell them to help pay for the trip.

i have a 52 ft featherlite 3 place trailer.  i did a trip to glamis 2 years ago and brought 2 rails, 4 quads, and a couple bikes...i took my powerstroke with three people and the rest split the bill to rent an suv.  it saved a ton of money and we made it down there faster.  my experience with multi vehicle road trips is the more vehicles in the group the more stops.  i carry 135 gallons of diesel on that truck.  i can go 1000 miles loaded with my foot down no problem.  just an idea.  the hardest part is getting the boats in the water. lol

and that would be great to buy some extra boats to sell...just have to have the cash to put up.  i guess i wouldnt even have to bring a boat...just buy 3 when i got there and rock the nicest one!  either way im down to tag along or meet people down there.  too few hot rods up hear to play with.

Hey Repo, welcome to the board.  Since you're in Portland, you gotta hook up with us on SkagenBoats.com.  Lots more of these boats up here than you realize.  Skagens board is a lot like this one, good peeps and little drama.

Here's a link.....check it out

I thought this thread needed a little CPR  ----   Nurse, more beer !!!

Is there still talk up north about this really happening?   Is October still the target?

This would be epic.   Maybe Jerry could use the material in a future film???

Actually would be nice! I know I threw around another Mead dealio in October, and Crewcheif was working on sumpin with Texas Hot Boats in that time frame as well. If it's Parker, so be it! I'll try it at least once!

Funny thing about the nurse comment. After my "vacation weekend" this past weekend that got ruined and ended up with me in the ER a couple times with what still seems to be now a toss up between a Gall Bladder problem or my liver (Go figure), got a script from a female doctor at the ER and went to Walgreens.

Pharmacist looks at it, starts laughing, hysterically, and showing it around to the girls behind the counter.  He had made a few smart comments that I didn't get, but then he hands it to me and says "I'm not exactly sure how to fill this" and points to the line that shows what med and dosage info, etc. I lost it, as did my lil brother. All it says is "Oral daily for 30 days". He says, trying to keep a straight face, "How do I fill this?"

I was like "well, show me what you got, you're the pharmacist"  Thinking I got him, then he pipes back "Maybe you need to go back to her and have HER fill it!". LMAO

Was hilarious. He ended up calling her and having a new one faxed and let me keep the original, as he had made SEVERAL copies of it, lol.

Then I asked about refills.............................. >:D
