Wife and I are going to try Pirates Cove in Needles this weekend, this area of the river is new to us with the boat. Are there any areas to be aware of as far as being in an 18’ shallow V jet? Also what is better or more scenic in that area, going up river or down towards Topock? We are staying with some friends with a fifth wheel trailer and the boat will be in the water all day Friday and Saturday if anyone will be in that area also and would like to meet and have a few drinks.

Pirates Cove is a very nice place with clean bathrooms and nice beachs. Also as a good restaurant and bar. I went there last year had some problems with the boat but had a good time at the resort. I have never but up river past Pirates cove. Going down river is nice no problems but there is a no wake zone though the Topock gorge. Nice place.

Sounds good, I'm looking forward to taking the boat out there, our usual place is on the north end of Parker Strip. I've been wanting to try a few new places along the river this year, but don't want to take it anyware that other jet boat owners recommend not to because of certain things.

Yeah its a nice place. I have never taken the Hallett to parker yet. But dont go into Havasu unless it's early in the day cuz the Topock gorge goes to havasu but I'm sure you new that.

Topock gorge is one of the the most beautiful section of the rivers. Kinda like the north end of Parker times 10, and that part of Parker is very pretty. It's a must see. There is a reason it's protected. Going up river not nearly as scenic. Won't have any problems with shallow areas in Needles. North of Needles towards Bullhead is where it gets shallower. However, you will see a lot of big boats in Needles. Even bigger than Parker. A lot of them coming up from Havasu going to Pirates Cove. The water is noticeably colder in Needles than Parker. I've seen them setup a sobriety checkpoint by the bridge just north of Pirates Cove. Probably too early in the season for that but you may want to ask around if you plan a having a beer or two. They got you by the balls for on the water fueling at Pirates Cove. It's real expensive, because they are the only one in Needles that I know of.

The water is cold over by needles but when it's hot is great. I went last March the weather was great but the water is cold and I mean cold. Good times though.

X2. The gorge is awesome to drive through.
I have heard about the no wake zone, is it right there at Golden Shores and the bridges? How long is it?
Going south, I think the biggest thing you'd have to look out for is the big boats, hopefully it won't be too crowded.
There's a big sandbar at the bend everyone hangs out at.
If you go past the gorge, there are some sandbars to keep eye out for as you come out of the canyon. Just read the river and you'll be OK.
If you get a chance, Havasu is pretty cool and idling through the channel and under the bridge is awesome.
Needles has some nice little beaches and that's usually were some of the old v-drives like to hang out.
And like the guys said, the water is cold.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I'm excited to have a good time on that part of the river. It sounds like we will take a ride south towards the gorge and probably not much further. Not too interested in going to Havasu, I have been through the channel and London Bridge before, just not with my boat. I have herd they have clamped down on the sound thing, I don't want any problems, I have open wet headers. I will have a few beers with my sandwitches during the day but never get trashed, besides I don't think Ranger Rick looks too closely at one guy and gal in a boat, they will usually look a little closer at a boat with a bunch of guys acting all rowdy and being stupid drawing attention...LOL :screwy:

Pirates cove- 24 hr fuel dock
Topock 66 resort has a 24 hrfuel dock (the old Topock Tinas, AZ side)
Needles marina- 10 miles UP river has a fuel dock (a long way to paddle against the current...)
The Avi- 25 miles up river from I-40 bridge, has a fuel dock
The Topock gorge is a nice ride-

Had a pretty good time last weekend in the Park Moabi / Topock area. I know it's early in the season but that water was pretty damn cold!...Water level was pretty high on Sat. & Sun. but you had to watch out for allot of floating debris. Drove well past Topock into the gorge, it was very nice, found a sandy beach and hung there for a few hours, didn't really care for the lenghty no wake zones. Saw mainly big 30'+ high dollar boats & pontoon's going up river, only saw one small jet all weekend...LOL My wife and I still like the atmosphere of Parker better, but we had the chance to try something new, we are planning on attending the SoCal Blue Water event in two weeks...cheers.. :thumbup:
