Title: Brakes??
Post by: Toes on the Nose on July 28, 2007, 01:50:17 PM: Hey guys....... just got this boat...... it came with the original '78 Roadrunner tandem axle trailler.
Problem is that the trailer has no brakes........ How hard would it be to install brkes on this (surge??)
Is this gonna be pricey? I drive an 18-wheeler for a living so I recognize the reason for having them.
Just thought I'd pose this to the local pros.

Would you enlighten me on the reasons for having brakes on a trailer that holds a fairly light boat? Thanks!

Post by: beerjet on July 28, 2007, 04:24:35 PM: Panic stops for instance will aid in lifting the back of your vehicle. ass end starts to slide and yer dun fur. A good working set of brakes will pull the trailer straight . Especially in a lighter boat. My .02

The tongue will have to be cut off and have the correct one either welded or bolted on . I've always gone to Arrow trailer supply in ontario ca for parts . Seem to be about right on for prices and the peeps know what they are talking about .

Note cant just weld it on you have to make sure the ball is centered on the trailer!

Those are the kinda prices I like to see. I have some holes on my trailer that need to be patched. Its where the previous lights were and the new ones are smaller and surface mounts. so the hole shows through on the top and bottom of the light. I will try to get a picture. I figure its worth about 30 pack and a decent size'd bottle of JD ;D
