I've seen quite a few boats with and without transom straps. The kona we use to have had bow hooks/d rings on the rear to hoot to the trailer. The GT I picked up has nothing. I'm going to be towing about 600 miles in a few days and want to strap down the transom so it's not relying on only the floater bar to stay on the trailer.
I do have a ski hook and was thinking about running 2 straps off of it just snug to prevent bouncing. The other idea was just running one entirely across the back under the headers. Both options require padding so it doesn't ruin the paint but both seem like a much safer alternative to throwing a strap over the pump or not running one at all.
I figure some kind of transom strap is necessary on these lighter boats with these quality roads we have here in California.

It's law to have it tied down.
I have seen guys tie down with the pump (don't like it much) you could always buy a couple of stainless u-bolts and go that route. Cheap insurance imo.

Mine has no wood backing either, used a 1/4" aluminum plate angled off the stringers.
Lifted the boat off the trailer with the engine in the boat. Never even made scary noises.

I definitely would not run a strap around the hull.

What do you think about just running one to the ski loop? Or would that be bad to potentially stress the mounting points

Go around the pump and be done with it I've always done it this way and never had a problem.

How thick is the transom glass? Mine was about 5/16"

Ive used the ski pole before i installed my stainless hooks, worked just fine. Figured if it can withstand the force of pulling someone out of water it shouldnt have a problem holding the back of the boat down. You dont need the straps to be super tight just snugged up. Nice float by the way.

I havnt measured but 5/16 seems about right
