Title: towing through Oregon and Washington
Post by: jamesgib on February 20, 2009, 08:10:55 PM
Well I am making my move to Washington state. Does anyone know what the speed limit is while towing through Oregon and Washington, and if you have to be in the first 2 lanes like in California?

Thanks, James

I think it's the same as CA, 55MPH when towing.

There's only a couple of minor differences:
1) Our freeways only have 2 lanes.

2) In Oregon, for some reason we almost drive at the speed limit. Just a little over, nothing at all like SoCal where they arrest you if you are going under 100. Once you get to Wash, it's back to faster again. I've never figured out why the thing about driving mellow in OR.

Enjoy the wetness!

I think thats because Ore. State Troopers are pretty on the ball when it comes to giving out tickets and most of them hate Californians, the last speeding ticket I got was in Ore. and it cost $280 (70 in a 55), never even saw the Trooper. If your talking teh 5 you should be OK doing 60 while towing, just don't make bold passes, that's when they like to nail you. I Have been towing into Ore. from Cali. for 20 years, you'll be OK.

If you do go 5, stop in at Shasta city and eat at the Black Bear diner, it's the first one of a chain and the food is the bomb.  ;)

Thanks for the info guys. We stoped in Willows (north of Sacramento) for the night and ate dinner at the black bear diner and the food was really good.

I think its because of your troopers!  I lived in Seattle for a while and made regular trips down to Cali.....driving through Oregon sucked balls.  Its like the whole damn 5 was a speed trap all the way through the state!

My last ticket in Orygun was for 64 in a 55, country road miles from nowhere, on my Harley. Cop was a brainwashed prick, like I wasnt even there, wasnt going to hear one thing I had to say. Mom got a ticket up there for 69MPH, never had a ticket in her life. Their the same all over. I got one here for 30 in a 25, industrial area they changed the sign to 25 sat a wrote tickets then changed the sign back. I said,"i'll see you in court" and the cop laughed. Seams you will sit in court about a week before you get a chance to fight it.......AND you pay the fine first. On my second trip to court they said it'll be at LEAST two more days in court, for $190 wudda ya gonna do? Organized crime at it's finest. Got a ticket for no Reg about twenty miles from the Orygun boarder (cali) so watch there, they get you leaving the state and know yer jus gonna pay it.

Oregon is pretty tight with speed and does not give much slack. If the cop is a state trooper or county deputy that is assigned to a traffic team they would write their mother. If it is in the city or just a normal deputy they will give you some slack alot of times, just be nice and get em talking about something. Also gotta watch the "construction" zones. Does not seem to matter if they are working or not, state cops and traffic guys will pinch you and the fines are doubled. Most parts of the state on the highways you are ok at 8-9 mph over the limit and on the freeways 10 over + is the threshold most use. Oh, and watch the school zones. That is the really hot one up here now. Some places it is 20 all the time, and some places it is 20 only when kids are present. Courts will not lower those at all.

I made it through Oregon with no tickets. I did see alot of cops but they already had people pulled over. Whats the deal with not being allowed to pump your own gas in Oregon?
