Whats the difference? Does anyone run car tires on their trailers? Any benefit either way?

Most car tires are radial these days, the weight carrying capabilities are lower on the car deal and trailer tires are typically bias ply P'sOS. I run car tires on my jet, but the Crusader (Dad's cruiser) has three axles and has trailer tires.
From my experience, car tires work better on light loads with tandem axles. They do turn harder.... 8)

Thanks GT. I need new tires for my trailer and they want a lot more for trailer tires than car tires. Not trying to be cheap but don't want to waste money either.

I have been using car tires on my trailers for YEARS. NEVER a problem. You should be fine IMO.

My trailer came with car tires from the mfg. been using them for years and no issues. But then my boat only weighs about 1700 pounds.

Greg, for the most part they are all good, BUT stay away from anything made in CHINA :thumbdown: They are the biggest P O S'S there is. Whether they are trailer, passenger, or even for big rigs. Mark

Steer clear of carlisle tires...worst tire ever made I used them on a quad once wore out quick...used em on a trailer...tore up a fender mind you the tires were not old at all... :thumbdown:

In theory, trailer tires are supposed to have a stiffer sidewall and less lateral traction so they can skid / slide across the top of the asphalt during a turn instead of trying to keep the grip and stressing the axles and suspension. This should prolong the axle bearing life.
That said I have been running car tires on my car trailer for decades without issues, and the trailer tires on the boat are wearing out really quick.

IMO car tires work better for light loads, trailer tires are better for the trailer and easier to move but they do not last for $hit and as little milage as we put on our trailers car tires are the way to go. As far as brand any major name brand will work just fine. My .02

I think most tire installers will tell you that trailer tire mfgs. tell you to replace every 3 years for safety. :o

i put new car tires on my boat trailer about 2 years ago and pulled it from alabama to illinois about 375 miles one way didnt have a problem with them and im still running them. the tits havnt even wore off yet.

I got cars tires last year for $200 installed for 4. I think they wanted $90-100 each for trailer tires.
