and if u have, why do you still own a jet? >:D
-
i drove jeremy's vdrive hallet cruiser....sure made me wanna get one.
-
I've driven six, owned one, and one was a Sanger shovelnosed hydro, the hydro scared me so bad I thought I would never drive another again, in fact still haven't. I don't mind a litlle "chine walk once in a while, but when there's no chines to walk :-\
I owned a 19' DeMarco with a 428 Ford, that boat really hated me, never could get it to hook up right, tried like 15 props, three different gear ratios, changed the cav plate sizes, I guess I'm more of a "slop counts for skill" kind of guy.
The other four were freinds boats, still like my jets and I/O's.
Maybe someday, always wanted an Eliminator Daytona with a Vee-drive, I'm just not there yet....
-
kinda miss the back seat and the reverse....but i'll deal w/ it

-
have Driven two a howard blown flatty that was a hand full and the new Demarco pickle hydro thats one of the many reasons i got rid of my jet you can put a Boner motor together and still haul ass
-
Previous boat was a 21' Campbell cruiser, V-drive, 72C B-W Velvet Drive, 427 BBC. Pretty much restricted to big lake boating. It was faster with less horsepower than now, but we're happier with safety aspects of the jet with younger kids around.
Cheers, Mark

crappy pic of my old flatty 18' l88 427bbc 13-1 comp, all roller, cassale (sp), menkins 2 blade prop, 7gal fuel tank, 106 on gps, it was one of the boats my father and i aquired, i scared the shit out of him in it so we sold it and went to tunnel hulls ;D
-
C'mon now, who would want one of these boats ??? I mean just look at it.
Ok.... You can stop drooling on the keyboard now :D

I would rather be caught in a tiger print T back thong with a lace fringe and hot pink boa .........
again , before I get caught in a V-Drive . Somehow they went hand in hand :screwy:

-
I'll be sure NOT to shave , just for you . ;) I'll tell you what though , I do find my self hovering around v-drives more and more . It's only a matter of time and space for me .
-beervdrive- ??? nah

I hadn't driven a v-drive in years (probably 30) until I had a chance to buy my Sanger mini cruiser/casale/turbo400 last fall. Since my son has the same hull with a berkeley jet (but with more HP), I've been able to make some real comparisons. The steering feels very different and the v-drive turns very well (sharp) to the left (port), but takes a w i d e arc when turning right (starboard). Although I have reverse with the turbo 400, there is very little turning ability. The jet has a better hole shot, but the v-drive planes faster (1800 rpms), and is more responsive between 2500 and 4000 rpms. The v-drive is noiser (v-drive and trans sounds) and seems to ride lower in the water to about 4000 rpms, when it really loosens up and feels like it wants to take off. My guess is that top speeds are comparable even with the HP differences (400 vs 550). At cruising speed--35-40 mph--the v-drive is turning under 3000 rpms where the jet is at 3500+. I love being able to cruise the 5mph zone in first gear and in a straight line, and the fuel economy seems to be 50%-75% better in the v-drive. On the other hand, I still worry about all the $$$ hanging under the boat.
All that said, I'm having a blast with the v-drive, and I think with a little work--more HP--it has more potential performance than the jet. You know, Dad always needs to win.
-
drove lilricks at irvine lake

It's only a matter of time and space for me .
me too
-
We have a 21" Connolly v-drive cruiser besides the Liberty. We will always have a V-drive cruiser in the family.
-
and if u have, why do you still own a jet? >:D
Besides the roost O0
Availability and price are big factors in favor of jet boat ownership.
Also if you like to pull water toys/ski it is nice insurance for the person in the water. (Just don't suck up the rope :banghead:)

That's cool terry , your neither in socal or a jet boater but we still accept you anyways!!! ;D
-
hey, i had a jet when i sighed up and was raised in so cal. 'sides WE got yours, right?
-
Always! ;D
-
Always! ;D
THATS my boy!

I grew up in a flatty. And my 1st boat was a flatty. I dunno even with a kidney belt, it seemed like at the end of the day I still had to pour my spleen out of my shoes. Don't get me wrong I've had many many good times in a flat wot just coming down to touch the water every 30 ft of so.lol
-
Growing up my dad had flatty's but one of dads good friends had a sleekcraft jet. I rode in both.
This is me around 1972 ;D The wierd thing is, throughout all our boat trips skiing and tubing none of us ever got cut on any underwater gear. I know we're supposed to (from what I've heard) but it doesn't seem to apply to the 4 decades and 3 generations of our family. ;)

So to answer Rick's question... YES I've driven a flatty but jetboats are still cool to me anyway. 8)

I drove a 1968 hallett with a BBF 428! it was wicked! ran it 72 mph on gps, it had more pedal left, I was afraid of hurting something too hard to replace! besides my buddy had a stroke when he bumped the dock! I would compair it to the same rush as running a 38 donzi datona @ 95mph!
A true joygasim!!!

Is it OK for one to have both jets and Vdrives ,kind of like dual citizenship ? ;)

How many V-Drivers have driven an Outboard...That is the real question... :sly:

How many V-Drivers have driven an Outboard...That is the real question... :sly:
I've driven a stoker sport tunnel. You stand on the gas and wait a few seconds before anything starts happening then the acceleration picks up slowly. It got it up to 76 in what seemed like a few minutes. Nice ride over nasty chop though. We had to change props just to pull a skier up. My buddy paid $15,000 for it. What a waste. ;)

I like the new Hondo so much that I'm looking at a trade deal for the propduster. Will put it's motor in a Cole runner. Need more speed!

Dude, what kinda props do you have/running?
-

Must not have been a good paying job....A new outboard costs more then ur whole boat! ;D
-
I'd like to get a Skater or a DCB with twin V-drives...Or maybe just one? :screwy: Do they make such a thing?? ;D

I belong to a gal that I met in school at Cal Poly, well it was her fathers anyway, Drive that boat makes me wish I would of married her. I'll post some pics as soon as get them off my camera

Does a new Malibu wake boat count...? Hahaha. Other than a two family friends older I/O and my parents Malibu, my current boat is the only boat I've driven...
Sent while on the run, or sitting at work bored

my first boat was a 70 charger v-drive flat, the wife made me sell it because it was way to fast to haul kids in. now we have the jet for that but some day i might get to put this thing together
-
I have a few v drives. I also have jets and even a boat with twin outdrives. I love'm all.
-
I drove myh brothers Sanger V-drive then bought myself a 21 Eliminator V-drive cruiser and love it.

I started out driving an outboard then went to a jet, then a IO,then a v-drive.Nothing like a the feeling of hammering down on a v-drive and be gone!
-
I have just about one of each. A jet, an I/O, arneson, and a V drive. All have benefits and drawbacks. The only drawback to my V drive is its in pieces right now. Haha

nice looking flatty , any particular reason you sold it. I don't think I could have sold it without at least getting two seasons out of it ;D

It was fun, just not what I wanted (in the long run). So, I got rid of it while it was still a happy boat. New owner actually called me a few weeks after buying it and told me what a great time he was having with it. I dont think I'll ever be happy/satisfied with any boat, but I'll keep trying. >:D

Like sanger pete i also have a sanger mini v-drive mines not together yet so the last time I owned a v drive was over 30 years ago it was a hondo pantara . I Live in havasu and boat mainly on the river as all those 40 foot 100 mph boats churn up the lake and they scare the hell out of me. My miller jet is great for the river

My 18ft Kurtis, only had it 3 years. Required a lot of attention. I really like my old dependable Sleekcraft.

I will be looking for one at the start of 2014! Like jet boats in all but I am an old 4-speed/posi-trac muscle car guy that misses getting outta shape...I look forward to having pedals and sticks again! Jet Boats=kinda like driving an automatic.

I'm new to boats,2seasons now, and when everyone told me I had to have a jet, I bought a flatty! I love to hate it, it sucks in chop I'm usually sore for a day or 2 after an Elsinore trip, but I love it, my buddy's jets will run me down in chop, but not when it's smooth.. And my boats a turd for now, makin sum changes this winter.. Not sure I'll ever own a jet, unless it's a baddass jet boat! And I'm not sure I can afford that! I know they're out there tho!

There's just something about stabbing the throttle, climbing into the override pedal, grabbing the lockout handle putting a shit load of rudder to it , to keep it goin straight, all while the casales singin right next to you!! love it! Probably the same reason I was out in the rain today driving very irresponsibly in my big block 4 speed posi street car!! Till my drivers side windshield wiper fell off! Lmfao
