Title: Steering onto trailer
Post by: Danger731 on July 20, 2009, 07:59:22 AM: I have a 76 Sleekcraft 23 ft day cruiser. When I drive up to my trailer after manuevering the stering wheel back and forth I can't drive the boat onto the trailer. I have to jump in the water and manually pull it up or winch it the last few inches because it is hard to tell if my wheel / jet is cranked over to the left or right . Yesterday I was driving my boat off the trailer to the left. PITA ! Is there a device that can tell if the jet is straight forward ?

1) Buy a whacker
2) Buy a picklefork
3) Put the training wheel type of siding on yer trailer
4) Get your wife to steer the boat so it won't be your problem anymore

Post by: riser39 on July 20, 2009, 09:11:53 AM: Not sure what it is called but i have something that resembles a compass that rates how far the wheel is turned. When straight forward it goes back to zero. I will get a picture for you when i get home tonight.

Any pics of your boat? I would like to know what it looks like, so if i saw it on the water so i can go park mine ;D ;D
J/K more seat time and you will know where she is. I have my wheel mounted so that when it is straight i know it by the feel of the wheel O0

As far as seeing if the jet is straight when your on the trailer, I just look behind the boat and you can see if your thrustin left or right ect. Having said that using the jet/motor to put her that last "few inches" up the trailer is a good way to suck a rock off the ramp into your junk.

And now prefers to bring the boat in and stop at the ramp and hold the boat while I back the trailer under the boat. Keeps things from getting broken. ;D

Post by: Legal Chemistry on July 23, 2009, 02:24:08 PM: too much gas and/or too much steering input. Keep it centered and give slight tap on the gas at 3 or 9 o'clock. Anything else and you may be asking for a problem.

or one of these. kind of like a drunk drive driving by braille - but for boats. my old man has these on his 27' and it sure makes in a cinch. bumpity-bump and your on!

Post by: Danger731 on August 02, 2009, 04:32:58 AM: Yeah , I think I have the center line figured out now. This boat is one hard to manuever SOB at 1 knot. I have a winch on the trailer finally so it is getting eaisier and easier. Those guys with the O/B's make me sick how easy they have it on maneuverability. There is just no safe way unless you walk it up to the trailer the last 10 feet.
