I recieved word today mid-afternoon that two boats had collided at a California boating event. Although there were no injuries there was damage to both boats ,one was reported to have an approximate two inch hole in the hull . Details to follow when available ...Tom

Alcohol could have been a factor >:D

before the rumors spread, we should get the facts straight....
who was involved and what happened and where?
-
Re unsubstanciated rumors ,I agree Brad ,very responsible thought on your part ,and since I don't know all the details and facts I won't point a finger yet and in retrospect I probably shouldn't have started this thread at all . I do belive it was/is predicable. and the people involved are fortunate. I've been to lots of these event and unlike an organized race theres folks with and without experience in Big Hp fast boats showing there "stuff",trying out new equiptment and yes possibly suckin down a few colds ones in the process. These get togethers are a lot of fun but also have a huge potential for problems . The liability and legal factor is enormous for the organizers and participants and it only takes one dumbass to ruin it (accident or not) For That matter everytime we launch and drive these boats ,driving fast or not we all need to remind ourselves that they are to some degree dangerous .
I got a text saying two boats collided at Tower park ,havent confirmed the drivers yet minor damage (2 inch hole in one) I Don't know the circumstances Hope (don't think) anyone was hurt ,someone is probably really "pissed" though ! T

Being an avid drinker myself as well as many others , some , not all accident or incidents occur not so much because of the fact that alcohol impairs your ability to react normally but (I think) we are taking for granted that we are in boats and boat DO NOT drive like cars . No brakes for instance . Some people get into a situation where they need brakes and of course there is none so they just sit there holding the wheel instead of jamming it in reverse or turning the wheel with a little throttle .
At this point I hope everyone is OK and we all are a little smarter for it . Lets have a safe summer .

Good post Bro because theres no Required training or licensing to use /operate these Hot Rods . It absolutley scares the beejeezus out of me to cut loose a guy (whos just bought his first boat) I can only hope that they listen to what little instruction I can give , A couple years ago I sold a nice SW to a guy I said " do you want me to go to the lake with you the first time for a little instruction...' No I can handle it ,he says then about the third time out he panicked let off the gas (while looking back) and smacked a Canyon wall (and sunk) DOH !!
Then there was "Helen" middle aged woman who for reasons that escape me bought a nice Jet Boat , After her first weekend disaster on her own (with her druggy boy friend) where she sucked up a bucket of golf ball size rocks and destroyed the jet (and the smoked the motor from overheating with a closed gate** valve 6K repair) So after spending more on the second repair than she paid for the boat ,She actually took me and Josh out for some pointers at a local lake She'd Nail the Gas for 2 seconds ,then squealed like she was "orgasmic' and promply let off nearly swamping the boat in the process, I then ask to drive ..... Or theres Ric :banghead: the USC jock boy (never owned or drove a perf boat ) that "welded" an Fresh 8k LS6 roller motor together in less than 30 minutes of driving ,ignoring everthing we had told him to watch for "cause he needed to show his Boston buddies" a good time ! (cost me 3k) Geeze I'm starting to rant a little ;D
Be safe, Vest up ,carry your saftey equiptment, check out your boat before you take it to the water and be vigilant!
** note Helens boyfriend had shut the Jet gate valve when they first launched cause they had left the drain plug out ,I did not make this Up !!!

Boating accidents happen, and in a panic situation your reaction is going to be slowed because you have to think for a second because its not as natural as driving a car. Now add alcohol and your reaction is going to be slowed enough to make a minor situation much worse. We need to choose to do the right thing by having someone else drive if we've had "to much" fun. And if your to stuborn to give up the keys because "you can handle it" you need think twice about how much damage can happen in a minor wreck!
I'll get off my soap box now ;D
Hope to see all you at Parker and the trip after...

A 2" hole??? How is a 2" hole news worthy??? Couldn't have been much a wreck....MP
-
Jon must have thought they were circle racing :o. Boating accidents happen every weekend but when it's someone we know it gets out attention. After being on the Lakes many times and watching Party Heat I drink nothing but bottled water and Pepsi until the boat is on the trailer for the evening and the camping/tan line inspections begin.

So what your saying is to get all sloppy and take the old jet boat for a cruise??? >:D
-
so what happened? i would like some details.

I heard they sideswiped eachother. I have no clus how hard or how fast they were going.

I heard they sideswiped eachother.
sure it wasnt marc? >:D
-
Yes Accidents do happen ,cars , boats, planes, smashed fingers etc ! But the vast majority are avoidable ! Human error, equiptment malfunction, poor judgement , stupidity ,impermant , inexperience etc etc
I don't know the circumstances here but I got a hunch I know why ! Tom

I was always told that "it ain't a party till something gets broke." Sounds like a normal SCJB.com get together. >:D

Just for fun, here's what I found out
" Riverdog was going to hand off a cigarette and the second boat obviously got tooooooooo close. I don't believe it was the kind of boating accident people are probably thinking it was"

Well now that definatley explains it ,I'm always carefull when driving my boat while simultaneously hand off cigs and stuff to the boats running close to me ,Hey !! maybe thats why they call it RUB rail. I feel certain the person responsible will take care of the damage or maybe its was a "no fault situation" Tom
Hey maybe there a Tech article in this ,like how to "hand off stuff" boat to boat at any speed ??
-
