So I'm doing my yard work today as I do every weekend and i look over at my neighbors yard and it's a mess. I think damn,  i do better work than his illegal gardener. Then i sat back and wondered what happened to the days like when i was young and would go around the neighborhood and ask the folks if i could cut their grass for some extra money???

you know if their was a neighborhood kid that needed some extra cash i would even let him use my tools. I just dont know  wtf has happened

i talked to the wife about this and she doesn't know either but, was sure to tell me that i would keep mowing the lawn if it came down to hiring one of our border brothers.

Would have loved to mow neighbors lawns and such when I was a Kid but I was an "indentured slave to my Old man" , too busy doing all the Sh*t he had lined out for me If "pops' had let me use the mower It prolly would have been a "pusher"  . Re kids today its all about looking in the right places , I put up an ad at the local christian school and got a great kid who came regularly after school last season to work raking the enormous amounts of leaves I deal with every fall I was happy to pay him and he did a better job than the "day workers" I used in the past Tom

yeah out here in vegas they paid everyone to get rid of their lawns cause of water conservation...this reminds me of me...i had 3 neighbors and mowed all their lawns made me about 100 bucks a month...hell i even weedwacked and everything...i think these days are over sad but true....also the days of kids outside playing are over...sad to see it go!

You can come mow my lawn(s). And you know I gotta grip O kids that hang out on my street, Hell I think yer on a first name basis with half of 'em NORDIE!

Me and a friend had an awesome thing going as kids, he lived in a pretty decent neighborhood in Granada Hills. Every weekend we would go around and do yardwork for a bunch of the houses! Some of the yards were pretty big so we were making $40-$50 bucks a yard.

We were also washing cars in the same neighborhood. His mom kept track of all the money we made over 2 summers and even factored out costs like supplys, etc. Amazing how much a couple of kids can make!

Those days are gone!

Blame it on Nintendo lol. I worked at a machine shop changing kitty litter and dumping metal shavings, then at mattress factory prepping box springs for material (I stapled cardboard on wood platforms and stapled plastic corners on box springs), then the last two summers in HS, I worked for landscaper/gardener mowing lawns (25" reel mower w/5hp Briggs, that thing hauled A**, could literally job behind it at full throttle). Then I joined the USAF after HS. I still cut & weedeat my own lawn today. I hate it in the summer, but I love how good it looks when its done.

my dad worked for a residential construction company. My sister and I would mow the lawns of all the model homes at the various subdivisions they were building in apple valley.

before that i started mowing a neighbors lawn...undercut his scheduled illegal landscaper....i remember when he found out, i was hiding in my yard watching when he showed up to mow his lawn....he was pissed! 

Times have changed i was nine i washed cars at a local car lot for 50 cents an hour and was happy i think it was 69 subaru just came to states  HELL MY KIDS WONT EVEN PULL WEEDS FOR A 10 SPOT 

Paper route bought me my CZ 250 at 14, a Yamaha DT250 at 15, and an RM250 at 16.   At 15 I started as a busboy at the bowling alley and bought my first car a 70 Roadrunner 440 with that hoodscoop that opened with the flick of a switch.   Mowed lawns before all that.   And from 14 to 17 I was on a bad ass swim team that required 2 a day practices.   My days went from5a.m. to 10 pm.

My grades really suffered during the second half of high school though.
