I know some of you here probably shit bowtie blue, and a bunch of y'all probly own GMs from 1993 - 2003 due just to bad luck or some such thing. I'm not sure what GM did to mess up a generally trouble free system, but they did it somehow.

Last week, 1/10/2011 Ford sent me a recall on my 1996 F350 PSD, Cruise control switches, its lasted 450,000 mi so far

Ok don't get me started. I am a Ford and Chevy guy. Let's see. Ford probs: F-150 and now Exploders with cruise control swtich that burned houses down and killed people. My buddy who is a fire inspector finally got Ford and NHTSA to admit the Explorers had to be recalled for the cruise control switch (fires) too (hmm same part numbers). Lets see Ford 6.0 Diesel Engine probs and lawsuit between Ford and IH/Navistar as well as a class action suit for the ambulance companies where people died because the 6.0's broke down trying to get to the hospital.

Ok I had an older Chevy 1500 that I beat the shit out of plowing and such. I never had to replace the rotors, ball joints, sway bar bushings, exhaust manifolds and now my 02 F-250 SD just blew a spark plug out this past weekend and took a COP with it. Ford will not recall this because it is not "safety". I now have to get the time sert tool, cop and pissed off plow customers cause it broke while plowing. The money I will spend doing this would equal to almost the same cost as putting a set of heads on my older Chevy. I have replaced more rotted fuel and brake and transmission lines on a Ford than a Chevy.
So far since Sept. I have replaced ball joints, axle joints, rotors, swaybar bushing, exhaust manifolds and studs (with upgraded stainless studs from Ford) and now the spark plug issue. I have spent more money than what it cost me to buy my older Chevy truck and I do all the work myself. Ok rant over.

Yeah them ford plug issues are a real pain in the ass...the answer dont replace the plugs...granted i have had maintenence stuff happen to my gm and of course the failing injector issue "by a first series engine" i will always buy a gm over the rest....the older chevy pickups like 92-98 man them trucks had the least issues ever...my dad had a 94 and 98 and neither truck ever had anything go wrong...my step dad had a 94 and only lost a transfer case...due to never servicing it and never using the 4wd...

Ya I had a plug pop on me on my 99 expedition also, what a pain in the ass

Mine was due to a shop that changed the plugs, and didnt put one in right. I had the heads pulled, bought a used head, and did a slight valve job at Dave's shop. What I have found out is that on the 4.6, 5.4 V8 (mine) and the 6.8 V10 engines from 1999 to 2004, whether in trucks or the Mustang or Crown Vic, used a spark plug with only 4 threads securing it to the aluminum head. Even plugs that have never been changed or removed, since it was built at the factory, have blown. When they blow, can damage things, like the coil, (mine

) fuel rail, or maybe even the hood. Helicoils, fail early, and if they dont, the stainless insert doesnt conduct as much heat to the head from the plug as bare aluminum, making the plug run hot. From what I read, Jasper engines, automatically put in ALL new inserts in everything they are building. The new inserts have 8 threads, instead of the 4. Also read that repair kits are available at CalVan, time-sert, and lock-N-Stitch. JMO

TJ and Nordie, love ya both but you are both still drinking the Bowtie Kool-aid from 30 years ago. GM is no longer interested in building a truck that way. They still ride better than the others, and they still get marginally better mileage. But they just aren't all that reliable. Combine that with customer service that is the very worst, and you have the GM experience 2011. Sorry. We can still drink together right?

My 2000 was at 160k and the only issues were egr 02 sensor and thermostat...i call that pretty reliable...to me even if this was the motto 20 years ago you maintain it and it will live....no offense gc but that dodge isnt gonna be the meal ticket...might wanna look at a toyota as they top the charts in dependability...i dont see myself buying a toyota though...im not trying to stir the pot or anything this issue is like yelling at a block wall...and everyone is entilted to their opinion...its even worse then politics i would like to think

Well, between my wifey and I, I buy a new truck or SUV every year since 1995 and I love my GM products (except the S10 Blazer but we all have bad days) I have had no major issues and I put a ton of mileage on my truck the wife drives 5 miles to work everyday. Her Tahoe has not seen the inside of the dealership and my last truck never had a warranty visit in 75 000 miles. All that being said I spun a crank bearing in my 2010 5.3 a couple of months ago alot of raised eyebrows at the dealer but not unheard of. I think with the economy the way it is we are in for some crap from all the manufacturers.

The folks that brag about Toyota quality need to look at the cost of ownership the Imports still require the owner to do alot of "preventative maintenance" at the owners expense. If we all maintained our vehiicles to that standard we would have less problems.

Just my opinion.

After spending about $1200 replacing the "FICM" on my 6.0 F350 about 2 months ago.....( Still dunno what it DOES, all I wanted to know was did it FICIT!)

Trucks running fine, everythings cool, Maintenance on anything. I do NOT care who made it, you're going to have these things. Now. The Dodge Cummins? Probably the best engine and management system out there. Seen what Nordie went through with his Duramax, and what I've dealt with with my Ford. They're all prone to failure, true enough, planned or not, but honestly, just how many threads do you see with a Cummin's problem....?

A) Pontiac are not Chevys. Since the 60's they have run harder and longer than Chevys, GM just doesn't wanna promote that much.
B) THAT Prostocker has very little in common with OEM engine. Mother Mopar supports the racers with factory parts like no other. Hell for a long time I think Pontiac was about the only mfgr. that DIDN'T use a Hemi design in their racing engines.
C) "Like a Rock"? Why would that inspire anyone to buy a car?
D) I like girls. Girls who race I like even more. No shame in being beaten by a girl at the drags. Now if she beat me on a dirt bike, THAT I'd have a problem with.

People who hate fixing stuff all the time. Nobody ever started a thread here about how any of their Dodge Rams had let them down. But hey if you want to change injectors at 60K or trannys at 80K, GM will certainly put a smile on your face.

Ol' gc is back at it again with his paper thin dodge antiks I see! All this started about a vehicle being over 10 years old having rust issues, guess what? Maintain your vehicle whether be shop or yourself. I still cant understand why you take cobstant jabs on GM trucks. your little gas guzzling hemi and paper thin sheetmetal, and shotty interior "actually a compliment" does nothing for most people, but keep thinking that joke of a truck is the best thing to touch the pavement

No "all this" started because Pat dug up an year old thread that will never have an ending. Just like Nordie and Pat, my statements are based on what my experience has been. My experience has been that I have owned over 30 Mopars starting with a sublime 70 440-6 GTX as my very first car. My daily drivers after that were 3 different 69 Roadrunners, 2 Cudas (1 440-6 and 1 318) and finally a 69 sixpac SuperBee with the lift off fiberglass hood. The fastest one ran 12.09 @ 112 yet still got me to and back every day. Lost one ignition module, one fusable link, and one u-joint (power shifting with soft bolts in the straps DOH) in all that time. Nothing else.
By the end of my stint with my current Ram I will have driven nearly 1 Million miles between 3 trucks. Thus far with these three trucks I have lost a fuel pump, a power window, a seat frame broke, and a water pump. No it ain't a diesel and so I won't outpull anybody up a hill and yes it will need a rebuild as it approaches 300,000 miles, but I have never had the tranny, engine, or rust problems that people seem to associate with Dodges and neither has anyone I know. The wife drives a PT Cruz that we just did the timing belt on. He told us to expect another 100,000 miles from that car. It has had a CD changer go bad in its 97,000 miles.

You GM guys I'm sure will have differing personal opinions and experiences but Mother Mopar has treated me very well. And since they are no longer an American owned companiy, I worry that they will be able to maintain this high level of quality. Another thing I know is the one GM product I did own, people in all departments and levels of ownership at 5 different dealerships treated me in a way that convinced me that they no longer wanted me as a customer. I loved my supercharged Pontiac Gran Prix more than any car I have ever ridden in. It was the perfect car for me. But the way I was screwed and tatoo'd by dealer owners and service managers forced me to go to court to get them to make simple things right UNDER WARRANTY ! And the way the union just f'kd over GM shareholders with who got paid with tax payer bailout money is reason enough for me to disassociate myself from anything GM. Peace

Well you are the only one who starts these threads about GM, then proceed to brag about your dodge! so how do you think that come across gc? To me it seems as if your trying to stir the pot...I think even today you had your hatred on GM, but maybe you should quit stirring the pot, and stir up some resin and fix your floor on your boat, besides complaining about the seat falling over...has it ever occured to you that your boat is completely rotted out, and probably unsafe? Atleast you have the greatest truck ever made to get you around town

Am I to assume that since you're all about reliability....that was your reason to get into jetboating?....because based on your recent threads, it would appear to the layman as if you were running a mopar in that boat....but we know better....mopar doesn't build engines that will live in a boat.

Seeing as how it's cold outside, I don't come on the forums much...but something called to me....a thread that mentioned stirring the pot, more than once. I couldn't resist. I'll also point out that the only plant worth a shit in a dodge is built by......lol.....not dodge, but cummins. Hey, at least it'll be able to drive itself to the scrapyard when the rest of the truck goes to shit.
