It has come to my attention that I am not wired like many others... Thank god. :sly:
I have a firm belief that a spark plug, by itself, cannot make more power than it's cheaper counterpart... Call me crazy, but if the heat range and reach is correct, you would have a hard time telling me it made a "major" difference.
If somebody tells me their way is better way to do something that I am doing, I listen. If they cannot prove it, I stop listening, this has gotten me in trouble.
I have never had the "best" of anything, I always have what I can afford, which is sometimes very little. But I will tweak it, bend it, adjust it, rebuild it, until it is what I wanted originally.
If it does not work, first ask why?, but after you ask, be prepared to find out "how", without a how there really is no answer to the "why".
Nothing is ever totally worthless, the worst something can be is a horrible example.

When something is broken, that is the best time to make something better. Thanks grandpa...

I don't have too much stuff, I have too little space.
If you have a gut feeling something is not going to work the way you think it should, listen closer, the problem may speak Chinese.
Even if a pick up is made here, unless it says Ford, Chevrolet, Ram it is not an American made vehicle.
The reason there are so few American products available for purchase any more is because the consumer is blinded by their own poverty, Chinese products are NOT cheaper.... Quite the contrary.
If you are out of a job, can't feed your family or pay the light bill, yet you have a Nissan in the garage, you are part of the problem.
If you can stand on a street corner on a 90* day all day with a cardboard sign that says "hungry" or "Jesus loves you", I will not hand you cash... I will however offer you this. If you can do that, you should be able to hold a sign that says "Drive safely, construction zone with men working ahead"... I would pay you for that. Chances are, so would many others.
There is no such thing as a free lunch, dinner on the other hand is a different story all together.
I have worked hard all my life, it is only now that I figured out that I really need to work smarter... Youngsters pay attention, if you get a chance to go fishing, camping, boating, wine tasting or just lay on the beach with your toes in the sand, DO IT... Those opportunities wont be there forever.
Kids are the biggest pain in ass that you will cherish forever.
Learn to flick a bottle cap a long ways... This stuff comes in very handy when you want to piss someone off from across the room....
Never tell someone your going to punch them in the face... Like the saying goes, it's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission...
If you flip someone off in traffic, be prepared to be screamed at, driven into or shot... I find it really calming to wave politely at the dickbag that flips you off, you can literally see the veins pop out of their forehead.

I knew I could get somebody to bite.... The profit from the sale of that vehicle does not stay here if it has a Japanese name..........
Only the cost to build it stays in an Americans pocket.
You will figure it out when you get more "seasoned". ;)

GT, I've always paid close attention when your posts. Be it a carb issue or generic jet boat question.
Seal the borders and tax the imports so hard that no one can afford them.
Try to buy a Chevy, Ford or Dodge in Japan and take a look at the tariff.

I knew the idea behind the post, easy to read. Seasoned or not, studying economics helps, but like I said, no desire or need, to argue the point. Hoping to meet you in person one day as you've always had great posts. Cheers.

I too read almost every post that GT puts up. For sure a very knowledgable person. Maybe one of these days I will have the privilege of meeting him as well as the rest of the guys.
Now all I have to do is get my boat finished! LOL. 😄

I am a perfectionist when it comes to working on other peoples stuff, unfortunately it takes away time from my projects making them less perfect.
I find that just hanging with my dad and my son at the same time is like being a kid all over again. Pretty cool.
I work 9, but charge for 8... But when I work 10, I'm getting paid for 10. I'm dumb, not stupid.
Laughter eases physical pain, I think it also slows the aging process.
I am happiest when there are tools in my dirty hands.
If you cannot be humbled, you are not alive.

This is the truth. I've got two recent grads from UTI and Wyotech and I don't think either one will be a tech in another 5-7 years. IF either actually starts to understand what it takes to turn a wrench.

CORRECT 1000%!! I hired a guy and I asked if he had his own tools, he laughed and said yea I got a bucket or 2. Next week he brought in 2 home depot orange buckets of tools. My mind=blown! :banghead:

Like I said about video games. I was in garage with my dad since diapers, no video games but we built lawn mowers, bicycles, trannys, and I learned not to wrench on oil filters or use indian head compound to help seal carbs and radiator hoses!! :sly:. Yes it was the joke in the house forever--for sale carb and intake will not seperate-lol. HE taught me how to think and envision how something works and why. Got me where I am today. Shit now that I think about it we built a few of those clear model engines to show me how they work. I can tell a potential mechanic in minutes, and they aren't out there anymore.

Thanks for the words of wisdom GT. I thought I was the only one with space issues lol. Drives my wife crazy. I still have bolts from my first car (70Nova 454/th350) in an old ammo can under my work bench. Never know when you might need a rusty fender bolt lol.

I'm a youngster and I love work on car boats anything with a motor!! I will be a mechanic one day just need to go to school to get certs. And my dad was not a mechanic at all I work on all of his stuff since I was 13 and I built my first four wheel drive when I was 15 mind you I took a 2 wheel drive and converted it! There are still a few of us out there don't lose hope! I work on my boat myself with the help of some of my friends who know more than me but I'm always will to learn more!! I hope to meet you guys some day it's hard to get down to so cal lol

Certifications don't make you a good mechanic, experience does. Ask questions, make mistakes and more importantly, learn from your and others mistakes...

Good god i cant emphasize this enough. You dont know how many idiots i work with that have certs up the ass yet dont know how to perform a simple brake job. Im not gonna say where i work at but it was something that bugged the fuck out of me because of the politics surrounding said certs....what makes it worse is that we're union so everything is skewed beyond belief :banghead:

It is overlaid on a simple picture of a VW bug driving down a dirt road in possibly Baja Mex. towards green mountains in the distance. My Grandfather used to love driving us kids all over the dez, just to see where the road would take him. The jouney IS the destination so often. Miss u Gramps. :beer:

Being as the year is almost over.
If you take a round trip flight to somewhere, make sure you sit on the same side of the plane both directions, you will literally see twice as much out the window.
Respect is earned, seldom deserved but always mutual.
If you screw up, own it. If you think back on it, you have learned more by your mistakes than you have your successes. Many times it can be said that your successes were by accident, so don't be ashamed by them, embrace them.... Just don't make the same ones twice.
For the younger crowd, that little voice inside your head is nearly always spot on... If it "feels wrong" it likely is.
Don't always follow reason, but listen to what it has to say.
Lastly, have the balls to go after what you think will make you happy, if while in pursuit of that, things or circumstances change, don't be afraid to change your path. Just be sure to search your soul to find a new destination. Fate only controls what you do not.
I hope each and every one of you has an incredible New Year and that all the things you didn't get this year, find you in the next.
