ANWAR is not the answer. If we go by the highest estimates, made by the oil companies, the reserves we could get there would last 6 months at current US use. Of course a large % of the oil that is drawn from the ground on US soil is sold to other countries, and we couldn't get it all out in 6 months anyways, so really this tiny amount of oil will not by any means help bring our country out of foreign dependence. For the record I am not a tree hugging hippie, I work (intern) in State Assemblyman Martin Garrick's office, he is a hardcore Republican. I vote for alternative fuels like methanol, hell the indy cars use it can't be that bad, and it can be made from natural gas at close to the current price that we currently pas for gas. When oil is pumped natural gas is vented and burned as a by-product. From the wasted natural gas we could make enough fuel to power our vehicles, according to my father.
