We had a somewhat similar incident a few years ago in South Phx where a cop was "responding to a call" along a then pretty much deserted stretch of Baseline road. Lost control on a flat, straight stretch of road, (the whole damn road is a straight as an arrow, and flat) skidded to the left for some reason, hit the embankment on the right side, then flipped the cruiser a couple times and died (Was only a 2 or 3 yeard cop too)at about 3 AM. They made such a stink about it at the time.
No other cars around, thank gawd it was really late, car ended up behind a newly built bus stop, but happened right in front of a new development that was going in. I happened across it going to work when I installed doors and trim in new homes and had to turn around and take the I 10 to 51st to get around it, they closed the road.
Saw the skid marks for weeks as I was working on a development about 10 miles from the spot. Fugger HAD to be screaming when all this happened. The skid and slide marks before the curb were AT LEAST 150 yards long. And the spot where the car ended up was a good 100 yards from where the skid marks ended at the curb.
Look at the tax money, public donations to the family, all the hype because the fugger was apparently an idiot. 5 full lanes and you lose control with NOONE else around, and why such a high rate of speed anyway. I can see fast, but we're talking prolly similar triple digit speeds.
I agree with whomever posted, "you can't fix stupid".
