Title: Park ranger respect 101
Post by: GT Jets on August 27, 2008, 12:30:33 AM
Did not want to thread jack the Sanger circle boat thread, sooo.

Tom said something that reminded me of a story, he said they took the little Sanger to a small lake and the ranger gave him some shit.

About 1990 I had a race boat to test on a local "pond", the problem was it had 3 huge numbers down the side and happen to be built of aluminum  ;D

Lets just say when we backed this thing in the water, everybody at the launch ramp stopped what they were doing to watch us, including the county park ranger, we will call him "Richard" ::)

So Richard comes over to us and says "so how fast does this thing go?", So being as cool as I could, I said "don't know, haven't had it in the water yet.", He continues, "is it loud?", so I answer "maybe".  This goes on for a couple of minutes, then he finally asks us "should I allow this boat on the water?", so now I stop and say "why wouldn't you?" and he says with a straight face "sure looks like a race boat".... I'm thinking "duh"...

He was cool and let us on the lake, but reminds me of the 35 MPH speed limit, I just nodded like I understood...

So we get this thing in the water and idled out of the no wake zone and there were probably 15 people standing on the dock. As soon as we clear the bouy, we hammer down, the boat pops out of the hole like it was bit in the ass and we run it around the lake at about 85 MPH with a 200+ foot rooster, of course the ranger was in his 12' Whaler with the lights blazin', so we slow down to a stop and he says "I thought we had an understanding about the speed limit". So being my smart ass self I say "we did, you asked if I knew about the 35 MPH speed limit, I nodded yes, but I never said I was going to obey it, the ticket is $35 right?," he says yes then he's quiet for a minute and then says if I take him for a ride he'll overlook the violation, so away we went one more time around the lake, scared the living crap out of the Ranger too...The very next season, somehow the county rangers ended up with a 2 year old Duckworth Sheriff Patrol boat with a Kodiak pump and an EFI Big Block Chev., my shop did the maintenance on it for four years...

I could have asked for permission to "test out the boat", but sometimes its easier to beg forgiveness then ask for permission...

I'd really like to be positive here as I do respect law and law enforcement BUT what Josh and I experienced was nothing short of high handed discriminating "bull sh*t"
Over the weekend I will formulate and refine this story and try to be objective and write it well ,as copies will go to the SLO CTY board of Sups and the State of Ca (re the Quagga program) but for the time being Imagine this , You pick up your brand new Corvette , your a good conciencious driver you pull out on the street in a polite and mindfull fashion observing all rules and laws ,you proceed for a few ,you've done nothing wrong and you look in the rear view and you've Got a CHP red lite ,you pull over ans "Smokey" gets out
Hello officer what have I done ??
Nothing  I just want to tell you that we have rules on these Hiways and your driveing a "rocket ship" you just look like your gonna cause  trouble  ......... its gets better  ;D

tom, I just got a ticket in our red vette convert for 30 mph in an industrial area. cop was sitting under a 25mph sign after four 35mph signs. paid the ticket, $190, and went back to the "scene" which is now posted 35 all the way thru..talk about Bs. I could fight it if i wanted to spend "at least" 4 days at the court house.

When I was 19 had my 64 tempest,455pontiac,tunnel ram , lowered, skinnies up front,  it was a 12 second ride on street tires in DVR.

A cop pulled me over and gave me grief and listed  "tremendous potential"

I've had both sides over the years.  It's about 50/50.
The worst    I was spead-eagles in the snow with an officers knee on the back of my neck . I was held for 31/2 hrs with 4 staties in New Mexico. I was driving the 1971 Jag I had built for my mom. They wanted to just "check my papers". Iwas not speeding. I travel "hot". I was going to look at a car to buy in Nev. So I had about 8k on me, 1 hand gun Plus a folding stock ak. As a side note I have grown up use guns and enjoy the hobbie  and respect them. Everything was legal. I've had some real shittie situations over the years and it has saved my hide and or kept me from getting rolled. It's only money?
YA MY money and I'll die for it! I told the officer before he even approched the vehicle<with my hands outside the widow, that there were guns inside. He shits himself and it goes down hill from there. They tear the shit out my moms Jag. (^%$% ed up interior panels tore carpet out. Spred my tools interior parts and trvel stuff out in the snow and I'm left to clean it up. I ask about if they're gonna pay for &^&^5, ing up moms car the officers look at me like I'm stupid and say hell no. I was patient till then. I then metioned that if I HAD had bad intentions Icould have smoked the the original officer and driven off. Shit that cost me another 1/2 hr face down while they lectured me and poked shit in my ribs and about tore my arm off. I rent a letter to the chief from my attorny. I heard nothing back.
Had great things too from motorhead officers!!!!
