I know a few of you had them. Unfortunately I sold all of mine when I moved into an apartment, and had to empty the parents back yard. LOL
I had a 1972 240Z, had the original faded blue metallic pain with some hideous rear window louvers. Grey primer spots all over the body, the car looked like pure crap. Under the hood though lay a beautiful I-6 L24 block, bored out, with a late model 280Z head milled to the hilt, ported, polished, Chevy valves, a nice high lift ISKY cam sat under the cover. Tilton dual disk clutch, on a lightened flywheel, MSD ignition, triple side draft Delortos. The car got 9 miles to the gallon on a good day. Tri-mil equal length headers, 2 1/2" pipe to the rear with a glass pack. Car also had full poly urethane bushings, with Tokico 5 way shocks, and motorsport springs. :D
Most people would hear the car lopping at the light, and just figured it was pos with a bad miss. But when the light turned green there was no catching the little beast. I walked 5.0 Mustangs, and a few classic camaros. I lost to a vette once. I knew it was pumped, I was just hoping for luck, and it was not with me. He didn't spank me, I certainly surprised the eff out of him though LOL.
I also had a 23 window rag top bus, that would do high 12s to low 13s in the quarter. Used to cruise it to the swap meets at Sears Point (infineon) with the needle tapping the 0 peg :D (approximately 100).
I also had a 67 GT390 4spd Fastback Mustang, but it was not a sleeper. It looked fast, sounded fast, and was fast LOL.

Ironically Josh and I found a photo of a small block 302 Pinto (pintang) we owned for a short time today I'll post up pics tommorow This thing was "scarey fast" ! Tom

i have a stock on the outside 3000gt vr4. but i got about 20k under the hood. Last time we dynoed it it put 450 to all 4 wheels. it runs the 1/4 in 11.7 at about 120mph. people think they are kind of fast but mine is a lot faster.

I've had a nice 69 Camaro, a 65 V8 Nova and a couple roundy round racers, but the most fun I've had on the street was a 74 Datsun pick up with a healthy 2.0L, lots of port work, Web cam, Thorley header & dual SU carbs. Truck was scary fast for having stock drum brakes, 31x10.5R15 tires and worn king pins, but it was fun.

Just a couple to start with.
71 jag xj6, 406 sbc,th 350, 4.11 gears, dechromed black. was my moms car I built. it lasted about 1yr then totaled. Mom was ok Car would run 14 flat @ 5600 ft ,9400 ft density altitude.
Next car I built for mom.
69 nova ,lowered, 4" wide ralleies in front, another 406 sbc,th 350, 3000 stall, 4.11 rear, 13.7 on the motor, 11.61 on a 175 shot. once again at 5600 ft. Not sure of the D A. on that one. It was late summer so probly the same as the other. She hit something in the road...drove till the motor made noise. Hole in oil pan. :'(
85 Suburban 4x4 3/4 ton, black with flames, another( see a trend here ) 406 sbc, vette tpi, th 400
built this one to last!!!! it's made it so far. the 2nd,3rd power tour it was in the flowmaster tv add. ran 16.2 @ 56oo ft.....before mom!!! She's awesome but damn hard on anything motorized!!!!!! ???

see I always knew that V8s could be fast. Thus the challenge, take this old car, leave it looking like a beater, then just crank the hilt out of it under the hood.
A friend of mine that helped me build a lot of VWs had a 63 beetle. Same story, ugly as sin, with stock wheels. At the light though with these little Honda's running around he could launch that bug so hard the rear apron would hit the asphalt :D and it didn't have seat belts! LOL
He curently is running a 10 second Myers Manx that he takes to hill climbs, and auto crosses :D

My Pops Dart is kind of a sleeper. It's only got a 340 under the hood with a dual plane and 850,.... around 600hp (Mmad built) ;)

Not mine but a buddies. 90 Mustang lowered, looked normal. Twin 66 turbos....9.3something before we got kicked out of track. >:D He just finished a single 72 turbo windser. Dyno'd at 571 hp NON corrected at 5400ft. pump gas ..driver.

Dude I love those cars! Had a 1969 roadrunner convertible with a 383...My high school ride was a '55 chevy 4dr bel-air wagon with a pumped up 283 with 2 afb 4's and a 700r4 tranny...Sold that 8 years ago for a 1970 GS 455 convertible I still have... After high school I found a 1966 Tempest that looked bone stock but had an old 455 outta a station wagon only 8.5-1 compression ratio and a peg leg and I gutted everything out of it and it ran a 13.4 with 9' slicks. The '31 pick-up has a 327 4 speed and we hooked up with a racer everyone one here knows and he has a badass slammed fenderless sedan and we pulled up next to each other merging on the freeway last sat after a show in Phoenix...Wild badass weekend... >:D The '31 pulled him but I think he may have missed a gear which is surprising considering who was driving that sedan...Nothing like pulling into Scottsdale fashion square, the night before the superbowl in Phoenix, and having 4 ratrods pull in and get reserved valet in front of the lambo's and vettes ;D...The '87 GN has been my dream car since high school and it just this morning clicked 27K miles...Finally bought the steel for the front end of the '67 Chevy II SS gasser project that's been on hold...

76 Ford F250, 460 1050 Dominator custom cam ground in the good ole San Fernando Valley by the secret shop in Burbank. Locals will know who I'm talking about. Hydraulic roller everything. Built up C6 transmission very don't remember but I'm pretty sure it was either a 2800 or 3800 stall converter. Custom Rewarder Headers. 4" lift Dana 60 front and rear. 4.10 gearing 37 or 38" PJ dirt grips. 618RWHP 12.3 @114 1/4mile at LACR. good truck. Looked big and slow, sure as shit didn't sound slow.

Idle set about 1400rpms. Only thing I've heard uncorked that sounds better was a Pro-stock 500 inch Hemi running wide open headers. Those are 50 series flowmasters.

Always been a twelve.3 was the fastest. Averaged 12.6
With the altitude correction on paper, the best it could have done was an 11.9. So I'm not sure where the mid 11's came from? My buddy's Chevelle is doing mid 11's with a lockup converter and slicks.
