Post by: CHROMEY on December 21, 2007, 10:03:29 AM

Men can read smaller print than women can; women can hear better.

The San Francisco Cable cars are the only mobile National Monuments.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from
history:

Spades - King David

Hearts - Charlemagne

Diamonds - Julius Caesar

------------------------------------------------------------------------

111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in
the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in
the air, the person died because of wounds received in battle. If the
horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural
causes.

Only two people signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, John
Hancock and Charles Thomson. Most of the rest signed on August 2, but
the last signature wasn't added until 5 years later.

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts... So in old

In continueing my fasination with meaningless trivia , there is alot of these quotes I'll leave out .

BEST FOOT FORWARD :From european noblemen who believed one black hosed leg could be more attractive than the other .

PULL ONE'S LEG :Theives literally pulled a person's leg to trip them up so an accomplace could strip them of there valuables . Not really a prank or practical joke which it has since become to mean .

CARRY A TROCH : Originally a passinate political follower , now a spirited lover . Enthusiastic folllowers took part in a loud and colorful evening 'torchlight' parades showing they were wholeheartedly behind their poitcal candidates.

goon : From artist E.C. Segar's 1935-1938 comic strip Popeye the Sailor . Rough and tough 'Alice the Goon' lends his name to todays hired thugs.

Feel free to let me know if this gets irritating .

cough , cough , cough-jet-cough-lover , cough ...... ;D

HANKY-PANKY : British Master Magicians would use fast movements of a handkerchief to distract viewers from noticing what they were doing with the other hand . A rhyming word was added and presto ! A new word for undercover doings .

GREAT SCOTT: The exclamtion , picked up by civilians , came from a very disliked and vain Winfield S. Scott who was a long time commander of the U.S. Army .

ACE IN THE HOLE : Originated from stud poker where a lucky player sometimes holds an ace , concealed face down , to turn the game in their favor . Expanded to any source of strength kept secret by it's holder .

BACK TO SQUARE ONE : Borrowed from board games where all players start a new game on the first square as a starting point .

BLUE CHIPS : The colored poker money that outranks both red and white chips lends it's theory to stock market investors who put their money in, what they consider , the most valuable stocks.
