I found out that the traveling war memorial (the wall) was going to be in Fontana today, so we packed up to go and see it. This is a 1/2 scale of the original and it contains 58,256 names, the original has 58,260 names.

When i walked up to the wall i got choked up, because, just being in its presence was more than i expected. then i walked along just looking and thanking these men and women for all they gave to me and our country. Folks have left personal items, that when i stopped to read it was really difficult for me to imagine the pain the families have felt.

Now i didn't know that our first casualty was back in 1956 this pic says it was in 1959. the reason it was not changed is because they cant change the granite inscription

in 1975 the last18 casualties were recorded

i cant remember how many pow's they said are still out there

All in all we had a good day, we flew our kite and just kind of gave another thanx for the freedom that allowed us to do so

I got to see the traveling memorial near the beginning of its tour when it was in Redlands Ca. It is very special to be able to see the wall and begin to realize the number of people that were affected by a crappy war (also kind of makes you think about the crappy war we are involved in right now).
Thank you to all the soldiers past and present for your sacrifices.

the way i put it in perspective for my dumb ass is this, your average pro-ball park is around 50k seats or so. i just think all the seats full then all dead. harsh i know but you dont see 50k in one place. it just sucks >:(

thanks ralph for sharing the experience=my brother served in nam and it is not pleasant memories for him=to this day he has never talked about it=yes we need to give thanks to all who served
not to get off track=my uncle is still alive and he served in ww2=and does not talk about it either

My ex-wife's Uncle was on the front line in Vietnam :-\...having to kill many people :-[...He one day ,quite a few years ago asked me if I would take some reel to reel audio tapes that he made for the family,on a day to day basis during the war and convert them to cassette. Let me tell you,I had to listen to this stuff,I have never been so hurt/touched/confused and just down right sad and angry in my life. The stuff he/they all went thru on a day to day basis,while we were all at home running our normal lives was just the most incredible thing I could ever imagine! My ex-wife was his favorite niece,so when we got married and had children,he was ALWAYS there,he helped us with the kids in ANY WAY we needed! He was injured in an accident after the war and after that he was unable to work so he was able to be there at anytime..and let me tell ya...He was,it was like they were the babies he never had. :( Now he,I think is about 60(not sure) and lives in a home and doesnt even know who we are. :-[ Anyway,WE ALL need to be THANKFUL to ALL of our Service Men AND Women EVERYDAY and think about what they sacrafice/d for OUR FREEDOM! THANK GOD FOR EVERYONE OF THEM! SO,if ya get a chance....take a look at that wall and think about what they all did for us and our Country and take a moment of silence-------------------------and say THANK YOU!!! ;D :D :)

I too have been to that "moving wall"...it's pretty incredible feeling!

thats cool stuff, i had no idea they were touring with a replica.....i'd love to go check it out.
when i was in jr high, i visited the actual wall ....and at that young age where stuff like that didnt interest me, i remember being greatly moved by it.

I've never had the chance to see either wall. It is one of things I really want to see someday. My father served on the Yorktown, my step dad was a SEAL, and my uncle was a weapon specialist lrrp in the army during the Vietnam war. So I grew up with a deep respect for all that serve and those who serve today. I served 6 years in the USAF. I look back at Vietnam and see us making some of the same mistakes in Iraq that we made in Vietnam. Our soldiers won the battles, but our politicians and media lost the war. Drama and Sorrow sells newspapers and keeps news stations rich so you almost never see anything positive that we are doing in Iraq or the positives that we achieved in Vietnam. We will not win a war on terror unless we are willing to throw away all the politically correct bs and kill them all. Sorry to get off track, just hate to see people making the same mistake twice. Anyway all my respect to all that have served and serve now protecting us!!!
