Generally I/O's will bring more money . S/B are very common . The volvo drive is not the most desirable but they are everywhere .

Take a close look at the bottom . You probably wont see much in the way hook since the earlier boats were layed up pretty heavy and held up very well on trailers . Look to make sure it wasnt ran up on rocks or any kind of repairs .

Overall gel I'm sure needs to look good as well . Make sure you tow it to the ramp and that you like how the trailer looks and tows . A quik water test will make up your mind . If he has all the paper work to back up motor and drives claims and everything else looks good . $4000 sounds like a good deal to me .

As your lookin at it , make a mental check list of everything that you see iffy and deduct it from his asking price. Thats my .02

For what it's worth, Volvo outdrives are damn near indestructable. The few mphs you give up over a mercruiser (if any at all on this old of boat) are nothing compared to gains in dependability.

On the other hand, I think 4K is kinda high for one of the old 'pregnant guppy' cruisers that Kona and a few others built. But if you like it and can get it for closer to 3K, go for it.
