Good luck GC.  I had to get a key for my Toyota last year, $215! I don't know or care why, I just know that's what I paid and that was after I bitched about it to the high Heavens!

The key is expensive because it is a programable key...Usually good idea to but 2 and then you have to pay the tech to hook up the computer and prgram them both. Also,if you have no key at all for the vehicle, they are supposed to ask for a picture i.d. and proof of registration before they cut and program the keys! :o

check with your dealer before buying a key off of ebay, some people are claiming the keys can be reprogramed by the dealer when in fact they cannot, i can't tell you how many pissed off customers we deal with that bought new keys off ebay, showed up for us to reprogram them, only to be told they waisted their money, we are mercedes but i would check, we also need photo id, proof of ownership and a form filled out before we can even order a key, ALL of our keys come from ft worth, no cutting at the dealerships.

I just bought this truck last year new from Frahm.  At the time I tried to get a third key but they wouldn't budge after giving me over $12K off of sticker.  They told me then it was like $350 plus another $100 to program it.   WTF?
At 15K miles the recommended service calls for changing out the front and rear differential fluids to the tune of $450 !
I don't think I will be going back to the dealer for anything.    And they wonder why they are going broke  :screwy:

I think you know Brother...You do not need to diff services at that kind of mileage.....maybe....just maybe,an additive if you limited slip for the clutches, but at that mileage I would say the diff's need nothing!

FWIW I would highly recommend changing the rear diff fluid, not necissarily the front due to lack of use, but the rear for sure, the oil I got out of my '05 F250 was nasty (only 17K miles), tons of black and crap in it, I was told by a factory service guy that they put a ton of Moly in the oil as break in, I switched it over to synthetic, just because I had it and I feel confident it will last a lot longer, we have had rear diff pinion bearing failures on some of the Ford shop trucks at around 100K, too early to tell with the Chevy trucks and we dont use Dodges (don't know why)...

Been a Tech for Ford and for GMC for about 30 years....well,never mind, every vehicle is different,I just know from work and my own cars that a diff service that early may not be needed! :sly: Anyway, best of luck with the key deal Dude...Hope ya get what ya need and at the right the price! ;D

I can see why the GM and Ford guys worry about this shit, but Dodge has always built better running gear.  Dang, I thought everybody knew that.   >:D

There again, I own a Honda CRV that my wife drives and it needs the damn rear diff fluid changed every 20K miles or it howles like a wolf in heat...And that's a friggen Honda.

BTW I too was a GM tech (two years) and worked at a Chrysler Plymouth Dodge dealership for four years and was the driveability tech and supplimental restraint specialist (air bag and seat belt tensioners) for two of those years, so I would not consider myself ignorant on auto repair, just throwing out an experience I had on my own truck... ;)

The key deal blows, GM keys are a five minute deal if you have the other key, literally start the car with the good key, shut it off and insert the new key and start it within, I think 2 minutes and your done, I thought Dodge was the same way...Maybe not though  :-\

I got home from work today, got out of the truck and happened to look down, and there is my key laying in the gravel near the driveway.  Woo Hooo   my almost perfect weekend is now officially a perfect weekend !
Ditch work Friday cuz Snow Summit will comp me a lift ticket.   Ski in short sleeves and no lift lines all day.  Then Saturday I get to ride on a perfectly prepped MX track at Glen Helen all afternoon.  Then I come home to a prime rib Birthday dinner with all my favorite fixin's and some perfectly chilled microbrews and a new bottle of Jack.  Then some quality time in the hot tub with my wife and some friends.       A small hangover and a serious lack of sleep kept me from the races at Elsinore, but the weather looked questionable for most of the morning.
The only bummer was losing the damn key, but now that is solved and alls well that ends well.   I'll drink to that !  O0
