WLTB 18-19 Foot "V" Hull Jet Boat
« on: February 13, 2017, 12:26:31 AM »
Hello All, Newbie Here

Been plunking around on the site, allot of good information here.

I am looking for a Reasonably Priced, "V" Hull, "Full Length, Full Sized Stringers", water safe jet boat with a Berkeley Pump,
with a Bad Motor, Good Motor or without a motor, I have my own engine to Retrofit.

I would like to find one close to Sacramento, Ca. if possible.

I would like the trailer to have Tandem Axles, with a spare tire also, if no spare tire,
I need to know the bolt pattern at least, so I can bring a spare tire for transportation to Sacramento.

The Boat and Trailer MUST have a Clean Title, and Pink Slips available.

A current registration on the trailer would be a plus, registration on the boat is not important at this time,
since a new motor will be retrofitted.

All emails/Pictures will be Considered.

Thanks in Advance to all for any Help on this.

Hello All

I found a Boat, it's a 1969 Sidewinder with a 454 motor with a 12JA-A-H Berkeley Jet

Interior is fresh, within the past year or so, New Stringers that were done Professionally, within the past year also.

Pretty decent Boat, at a good price too.

Thanks To ANY and ALL, for your considerations on helping me fine a boat.

Ideal Tong Weight For a Tandum Axle Trailer and Boat
« Reply #2 on: February 22, 2017, 05:18:37 PM »
Hello All

Now that I have my boat and trailer, I am going to modify the trailer from a single axle to a tandem axle trailer.

My question is this:

What would be the IDEAL tong weight in pounds for good handling on the road for the boat and trailer??????

There are one hell of a lot of you guy's that have probably played with different tong weights and probably have a pretty good idea of what works the best.

When I get everything together I will move the axles for and aft to get the good tong weight and then secure the axles to the frame of the trailer.

Please let me know what you guys think is best.

Thank You in ADVANCE for any inputs you might have.

Take Care,

Dusty

P.S.

I will be looking for a good axle when I get the width "hub to hub outer faces" and drop on the axle, I will let you guy's know. I will also need two springs and attaching hardware, will also let you know when I get the information.

If its a big heavy 21 like mine, there's better than 200 lbs of tongue weight, as a wild ass guess.

Ideal? well 12 lbs, of course. for a geo metro. I have TRUCKS. No half-tonners-with-wimpy-ass-gas-motors, either. So it depends on your tow vehicle.

The numbers have already been done. Most likely your center spring hanger will be right where your single axle is now.

Post some pics, and how much tongue weight does it have now?

Hello All

The boat does not have an engine in it right now, it had a 454 in it before I bought it.

The tong weight is pretty heavy at the present time since there is no Engine in it now.

I will be putting a Pontiac OHC 6 into it, they were built from 66-69 for Pontiac Tempest and Firebirds.

This engine now is upgraded to a 301 Cu. In., 14.5 Comp Ratio. Hillborn Fuel Injection, Dry Sump Engine, approx. 450-500 H.P.

It has been 169 MPH on the Salt Flats in 32 Roadster belonging to JD Tone.

It was first used on the water by Bud Meyer of Eddie Meyer Racing of North Hollywood, he put it into a HYDRO, showed up at Salton Sea for race season and was protested because of the Over Head Cam, the rule book said no over head "CAMS", Bud said that he only had "One Cam", Singular, on that technicality they had to let him race it.

He raced against a 100% field of V8 Hydro's, they could not catch him in the turns. He WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP THAT YEAR with the OHC 6.

So I think that it is very fitting that it gets back into a BOAT, NOT TO RAISE HAVOC, but for the uniqueness and fun of it being back in a boat.

It weights approx 200 pounds less that a Pontiac V8, not sure about other engines.

I think that it will be a fun project and I plan on having a lot of pleasure enjoying the UNIQUENESS OF IT.

Anyhow, just some update info on my boat and motor project.

Take Care, All

Dusty

P.S.

Are there some instructions somewhere that gives some guidance as to how to get pictures posted on the site?????
