looking for some seats for a spectra 18' mini
« on: April 22, 2009, 06:48:58 PM »
i have a set of front seats that are water logged pretty bad and falling apart. the only thing holding them together is the vinyl. i would like to keep the same seats and just re-build them but im no wood worker and wouldnt even know where to start. i know that there are fiberglass seats out there but i do not think that they are big enough. the vinyl is in perfect condition as far as im concerned and i would like to keep the covers. is there any one out there that could re-build the seats out of wood? or anyone have a set of fiberglass ones that will be the same size and not break the bank? thanks for the help

i will try and get some pictures this weekend Ron. the vinyl is still in good shape like i said, but the wood is damn near rotted out under all the staples that hold them in. i think that i can get it off and then just replace the foam.

thanks Ron

when you talk about the base are you talking about the piece that is attacthed to the boat? if thats what you are talking about then yes they are fine. the seat bolts to the piece that is attached to the boat. so really all i need is a place to park my ass, and the back rest part. the seats are like a half circle, and then of coarse glass the shit out of them so they will last awhile.

Much easier with stand alone seats. They may be a combination wood with a fiberglas shell. Tom sells the big boy shells now?

i know that skip does some killer work but i dont think that the fiberglass seats he makes are big enough. they are more for a drag boat style or a lower profile boat, not a cruiser. thanks for the idea though

well i might have to get tom on the phone tomorrow im up here in gilroy working and im leaving tomorrow. how would i do a combo with wood and glass? also do you think that i would have to re cover the seats? i would like to get out of this a cheap as i can. but if thats the right way to do it i would rather do that then half ass it and have it fall apart at one of these events this year

If you can pull the old seats out without breaking them and use them as a template they should be pretty easy to duplicate. Between Ron(master wood worker) and the two of us it should be a pretty easy deal. Might want to use high grade ultra thick wood for your...........nevermind I wont say it ;D

My old body is doing a little better thank you very much ::) Still movng a little slow but getting there. I actually have to go to work tomorrow so that should be interesting. Lets just pull the old seats out and duplicate them. It really isnt that hard.

Dave had to bring up the whole old body thing. If you want ot come down to the OC and help us bend aluminum I am sure Dave will show up with a 12 pack and hopefully not drop it on my garage floor this time. :screwy: Oherwise wood it is. I dont know shit about building aluminum seats. Wood I can handle.

ok when do you want to do that?
