Recently I have gotten my wife to go shooting a couple of times and she really digs it. But she's not real happy shooting the .45 due to weight and kick , so I am looking for something a little more girl friendly. Anybody have anything they are looking to get rid of that might fit the bill? Looking to stay with a handgun for her.

I don't follow hand guns much, but my mom had a chance to go for a ride along with the Riverside PD that included a trip to the shooting range. 

She really liked the Glock 9mm

Now the mental image of my "little old lady" mom firing a Glock is a little disturbing to me 

Took my ex ex ole lady shotting one time out around hemet. She chased a beer can down the road w/ a .38 first time out! I kept TWO empty chambers in it from then on. (revolver)

i personally think the glock is a piece of shit, id go with the ruger

I have a Ruger P89.  I bought it for two reasons.  First because it felt good in my bigger than average hand, better than anything else that I could afford.  Second because at the time I was able to by magazines with capacities from 15 to 30.  Afterall it is still a 9mm so I wanna make sure that the badguy stays dead.
My buddy bought a .40 Glock the same day.   I don't like the feel of the Glock or the sights, but I definately shoot better with his gun.  Pisses me off something fierce.

I used to work with some shooting instructors who always to women that they go to the range and start with .38 revolvers and work their way up out on the field.   Most ended up liking the .38 the best and being the most accurate with it.  The KISS principle is pretty important when it comes to amateurs and firearms.

I have a S&W .357 Magnum revolver with the 7 shot cylinder. It has a 7 inch barrel and its actually pretty damn accurate. Its a perfect gun as a hunting side arm or just to go shooting. The best part about it is that every time I have a girl shoot that doesnt like the kick or the noice I can throw in .38 shells and its a totally different gun. They seem to like the weight and lack of kick with the .38s and you can still toss .357s in if you have to do damage. I love it!

When I went to buy my gun, it was between the Glock 19 and the Baretta 9mm. Saw a write up in Popular mechanics about both. The testing they did was pretty intense, and they both did very well. Anyhoose, when I was at the gun shop I checked both out both. I didn't like the feel of the Glock, kinda felt like a toy   The Baretta felt awesome, then the guy was telling me about the difference between the 9mm and the 40 SW. Basically said if ya got a guy on drugs coming at you, you hit him with a 9mm he will keep coming, will go right thru em, meaning more shots, you hit em with a 40, DONE DEAL Just my .02

Most users will never run into a drug crazed pain immune zombie.   There is no substitute for a .45.   Yes a .40 is a step up the destruction scale, but 9mm is cheaper and more readily available.  That means you can practice more.   Just buy a 9 and a BIG clip.  Works for me.   

I'm with everyone on the .40 . Love my 10mm's, probably the best perp stopper ever made, and makes my .45 almost a toy by comparison. But I hafta handload it these days. The .40 came about from S&W developing their 10mm's for the FBI. FBI wanted a LOT less than what that 10mm was delivering. My PT99 Stainless Taurus is completely convertible from .22 LR to 9mm to .40 S&W and .357 SIG. Like that gun alot! (Beretta frames were made by Taurus for a number of years, so they learned a few things).  RJ loved it when he was smaller in 22, then with a compensated 9mm upper,  now uses it in .40 quite a bit. Don't really see what the hype is on the .357 SIG, but it is a bit more accurate at longer ranges, say 75 yards, but does not have the knockdown power of the .40 at the same range.

I don't see where the .40 is less plentiful for ammo than the 9mm? Maybe surplus ammo, but I wouldn't be running that cheap crap through anything but an old beat up Mac 10 or HiPower or something. Unless you really enjoy completely tearing down your guns to the last pin/screw and cleaning for hours......

Personally, I carry one of my .45's or 10mm's regularly. 

 Depending on what 9mm you buy Marc, you should be able to easily and cheaply find a .40 S&W upper for it. Then all you need is the magazines to convert back and forth, but were I doing it, I'd buy the .40 version, then shop Gunbroker or other places for the 9mm upper parts for what you buy. Far easier and plentiful to find those! And there are .22 kits available through Ceiner etc for like the Beretta and Taurus. I doubt you'll find a "Pistol Pac" like I have from Taurus, but it can be duplicated with other parts readily available out there  on many guns, the Beretta and Glock included
