Speaker Wiring

Does everyone has marine speaker wire set up? Is it even necessary to have the marine grade wire? I have standard speaker wire already and was going to take it to the shop that's installing my stereo but was wondering if I should buy the marine wire. Thanks in advance.

Unless you were going to be using your boat near or in salt water I wouldnt worry about it. The real advantage to Marine wiring and marine connections is that the wiring is Tin coated and the connections are Epoxy sealed.

As long as your wiring is safely ran (Away from heat and moving parts), dont sweat it.

if yor really worried about moisture, you can heatshrink the ends or contacts, put some dielectric grease or silicone.i have never used marine wire on any install and they are all still good after about 5+ years

I wouldn't worry about it.  Use standard wire and you'll be safe.  A cheap alternative if you really want the "marine" type wire without paying an arm and leg is low voltage wire you can get at Home Deport for patio lights.  It's usually 14gauge.  Toss some heat shrink on the ends and you should be good to go!

I agree with these guys, Been wiring stereos for a while now and marine wire is over rated, best to use the low voltage stuff or put some epoy on your wires
