bigblock versus small block

bought a 17ft tahiti 2 months ago and am as green as the day is long....i would like to get educated on smallblock vs biug block an the technical reason behind preference of powerplant! bring it!

im a small block fan have always liked them and always will. that being said what moves a jet boat it not the horsepower its the torque! which is why they seemed to always use the olds 455 stock it had a ton of it! i know that you can use a small block in a boat have seem them, just not that fast. could be wrong. but the change over cost alone would deter anyone! good luck!

A relatively stock 5.3l LS motor I think will hang with a relatively stock Big Block all day long...Sandeggo is in the '70s with his, and I don't even the changed out the plugs that were in it when he got it from the junkyard.

I've been thinking about a small block for the next float. A little 350 with a mini hat would be cool. Solid 70's all day long in an 17-18 solid 60's in 19.5-22...

A small block in a 17er will work great. And you will use a whole lot less gas. If it was set up to run a small block, I'd stick with it. The price of new exhaust, driveline, etc. can get expensive fast.

My 16'6 rogers has a 350ish HP SBC running in the low 60's. was told the impeller was an AA which might explain why i am only running 4900 RPMs. Ran the boat all weekend on 8 gallons
