Crazy Eights @ 2013 Idaho Regatta
« on: May 30, 2013, 02:34:45 PM »
So things are starting to look up for the Crazy Eights to be attending the 2013 Idaho Regatta on June 21-23, 2013.

The new block should be done today and I have 3 weeks to hammer this out. Not planning on being too competitive in the CompJet class, but mostly to go and have fun again this year.

I made this thread to track the progress of the motor build and road trip to Burley, ID and back.....and of course race footage, pictures, etc. of the event.

As of now, I am rolling solo and will running the SCJB name strong. I believe GT Jets said he was going to be there as well again this year. Who else is going?? Its by far the best race of the year and most fun one as well.

I heard a rumor there's going to be around 15 compjets!

Sweet! If you are just wanting to go out and have fun, is there a reason why youre not running NJ? Seams to look pretty fun.

Mine was stiff when working it back and forth on the trailer.
Once I got it on the water and under power, it was amazing!

Well, I have my first setback. I just realized I should have gotten Chevy Rod bearings for my Ford stroker crank  :banghead:

Picking up the block tomorrow first thing in the morning, going to see if he has some std chevy rod bearings. If not, off to summit I go....

Sweet! If you are just wanting to go out and have fun, is there a reason why youre not running NJ? Seams to look pretty fun.

I dont think they are going to have a NJ/RR class....plus I dont have a GPS....and I dont have a Tach to keep an eye on my RPM's to make sure I stay under 80.9......and so on and so on....

CJ is fun even if I dont win. I never have won actually. Theres just some poor sports that get cranky if they dont.  :screwy:

So, heres some updates.....

I got the block back from the machines shop on Friday.....all checked out good.

I did some drilling.....drilled out the oil galley between the oil pump and the filter. Opened it up from 1/2" to 9/16"

rounded the 45 degree bend in the oil galley on the oil pump pad end of the galley

rounded the exit hole into the filter area

I also rounded out the drain back holes from the lifter valley....(and vent holes which arent pictured)

I borrowed the neighbors pressure washer and blasted it pretty good....blew out all the machine scrap metals and crud in the oil galleys....and caked on grease and rust clumps throughout the rest of the motor.....then gave her a nice new paint job...

I then proceeded to check all my clearances. Everything checked out great. 0.0023 to 0.0026 on the rods..... 0.0023 to 0.0027 on the mains. Huge thanks to Ralph Brunt for lending my his bore gauge, mic's, spring checker, and cam dial......he saved me $100's in tools.

The crank is in the block and torqued down....tonight I am filing rings for fitment and will be dropping the pistons in.

here is some awesome articles by Paul Kane (aka LakesOnly on this site)

http://www.highflowdynamics.net/

It covers all of the block mods you can do to a BBF. The only One I didnt do was the dizzy gear oil mod since my cam bearings were already installed.

are you using arp lube on the bolts or 30wt oil? makes a difference on the torque spec ;) just a tip, cylcle the arp main bolts 4-5 times before your final bearing clearance check

Yes, I used the ARP lube that came with the ARP main bolts. My numbers were all out of wack initially. I blamed my measurements before I blamed the block.... so I took them all out and did them again and they were dead on......so yes, your tip worked.

For the rod bolts (ARP's as well), I used the molly when I checked the clearances....but I will use the left over ARP lube from the main bolts on the rod bolts.
