We took the boat out this afternoon and came across something I had never seen before in a jet boat- Temperature-  Help from the Guru's Please-   This thing runs 150 to 190 water temp- acted almost like it has a thermostat-  Do these things have that???  My old boat and all my buddies boats run 100- 135????

Mine does the same thing . My valve is closed a little to bring the tempurature up a little , also cuts the pressure in your block down making life easier on your gaskets .

I am a little confused. I know a lot of folks dont run thermostats on their jet boats, but i dont understand why you wouldnt. 150-190 isnt that high. From my understanding, engines dont even produce 100% of their power until they get to 165-ish anyway. Running an engine at 100 degrees is going to rob a ton of power. At least that is MY understanding of it.

Too much water pressure with a thermostat. There are ways of doing it but you need to get rid of the pressure when the thermostat is closed.

I guess it came out different then how i thought it did  ;). i am wondering why he was worried about a 150-190 temp on his boat. Just dont understand what the problem is running that temp or what benifits you would gain by running a boat at 100 deg. I guess that was what i was wanting to know  ;D

We were in parker last weekend for the ski races and were talking to a well known socal motor builder about my olds and he used the analogy- a jet boat is alway being driven up hill- cooler the better-  UNLESS- you are in race situation were you are looking for maximum output, then temp is a different story- after driving and riding in the jet boats I have ridin in and seeing the temp always at 100-135- then take this new jobber out and I am seeing 150- 195?????   "what the hell did I just get myself involved with"

Today I pulled my intake to reseal it and found that my t-stat housing has a thermostat and a spring loaded check valve in it (4 connector type).  I never had an overheating problem and mine normally ran 150-180 degrees.

I think I'm going to reassemble it as it was with a new thermostat.

Im all for the thermostat setup...my boat doesnt run one but it does make sense...like almost all new vehicles run about 210...they say that it is just better for the motor anyway,,,economy wise and power wise, but what do i know
