I'm new to the world of jet boats. I recently purchased a 1974 glencoe with a berkeley jet and a 455 olds. I live in Minnesota and we don't have as many old jets as you do out in California. So my options were limited without 2000 miles of travel.  The boat I bought is rather odd though. I have been looking around and haven't found another hull like this one. Deep V, large interior, short bow. Windshield that's moulded into the sides, kinda like a glastron. seating next to the covered engine. Anyone know anything about this boat?? I haven't had it on the water yet. Previous owner had the engine rebuilt but didn't finish hooking it all back up. I am into 60s and 70s muscle cars so the engine is no mystery to me, even though I've never had an olds. I do have a couple 454s in stock though. I will just see how the olds works out first. Anybody out there ever see one of these

Olds aren't the best choice for a jet boat as I've had one for one season....they are temperamental. If it was built correct for a jet boat and you plan on keeping it under 4000rpm...you should be fine. Water flow/pressure and oil pressure over 4000 at long periods could ruin a day of boating with the 455.

The hull and windscreen look exactly like a '73 17' Sleekcraft Montery that I used to have.  So one is probably a splash of the other.  A buddy of mine still has one.  It's a nice ski boat, with a lot of interior space for a 17 footer.  Nice flat wake.   Jumps outta the water like a comp ski boat.  Maybe harder.  Doesn't turn worth a crap though (but then again most jets don't), so be careful there.  Also prone to taking water over the deck and windscreen in rough water due to the short nose.  So make sure your bilge pump is healthy.  60mph boat with stock Olds power.  Yours looks to be in very good shape, with the windscreen still intact.

I'd have some fun with it and run the Olds until it drops, then maybe think about dropping in a Chevy.  As long as you don't run them flat out for long periods of time, an Olds will hold together reasonably well.
