After letting it sit for a while, I finally got around to working on my Rogers this weekend. I was able to work on her for 2 days straight. I installed a new fuel pump and fuel supply line up to the carburetor. I relocated the water seperator assembly and ran a new braided line from there to the pump. I installed a new in-line fuel filter that can be serviced.  I  Finally got around to installing a new Optima blue battery and I repaired the Dana Marine battery box. Started to clay, buff and wax the gel.  Changed the engine oil and attempted to perform a tune-up when I ran into a major problem once I removed the distributor cap. It appears that the prior owner didn't do such a great job of covering the boat in the rain. The distributor has so much rust in it, that I truly am amazed that the boat runs as good as it does. This week, if I have a chance, I'll remove and teardown the distributor and try to clean it up. I was toying with the idea of running all braided water lines. Instead, I ordered all new blue silicone heater hose from Summit Racing. If that stuff is good enough for police cars, then it's good enough for my Boat.

 

Wasn't too bad for its age. It had quite a bit of oxidation on it. Some spots felt like a very fine sandpaper. The clay took care of that rather quickly. I was contemplating color sanding it, but decided against it after I saw the results.

while your at it...it looks like them cables can use some attention as well..like replacement!

As long as you've gone this far.
 You might as well pull the intake, add a ride plate and shoe.

Since it is already apart , ask the rebuilder to check the loader bearing.

Do you give that same kinda quality advice at work, or are we just the lucky ones?   

As good as the rest of the float looks, I think the jacked up dizzy had more to do with the location than anything! 

Good looking work! I'm with Ron though, I'd do the intake mods now. Have the pump shop hide it in the bill from her........

That pic (blue white stripe on the bow) looks just like my old boat that was a 78 Rogers with a 454, jet. It had a red double stripe (small white stripe in between) above the water line and just below the deck. Is it the same boat? I sold it along time ago when it was stored near the river in Needles Calif.

N2GLOCK YUP THAT IS MY BOAT (SAME AZ 494U NUMBER) I BOUGHT IT NEW FROM ROGERS IN 1978 for $7,500 with trailer out the door. I WILL EMAIL YOU A COUPLE OF PICS WHEN I OWNED IT.

Thanks so much for sending me the pics of the boat back when it was new. I really enjoyed speaking to you earlier. I hope to have it ready by April for its first test run. Looks good. Theres a AN fitting and hose shop not to far from you. They have all kinds of crap. I'll look up the name when I get home. Let me know when your going to go out so I can tag along with my buckt O bolts. 

I've been busy workin on the boat for the past few weekends. I finally got around to polishing out the intake and valve covers. The prior owner kinda let that stuff go and I was able to bring some shine back. The accelerator cable appeared to be the original and it was damaged so I decided to replace it. While I was at it, I replaced the foot pedal hardware with all stainless. I replaced the carpeting on both fuel tanks. Painted the jet and transom cover. Cleaned up and painted the driveline and got new gold iridite bolts for it. Even after I replaced the starter, I continued have starting issues. I went thru all of the elctrical and wound up replacing many wires. I installed a backup bilge pump and installed a new switch in a hole that was already drilled out next to the switch for the primary bilge pump. I went ahead and got some blue anodized bezels for the 2 bilge pump switches and for the ignition lock cylinder. The bilge pump switches now also have blue anodized knobs that say "pump" on them. This week the jet goes in. Boat should be ready to see water in a couple of weeks as my "to do" list is getting smaller.
