« on: July 12, 2011, 12:00:23 PM »
I took out my 72 Horizon to lake Pleasent today and it ran awesome! I was stoked!and my kids loved it.  Just one question, Engine floored did not get over 3000 rpms. Is this normal? or maybe the carb is not opening all the way. Any suggetions?

Carb is opening all the way with the throttle and secondaries are coming open, timing is at 16 and advances to about 33, I did not look at plugs, I am running the AC delco ahhhh, I cant remember # and had a hard time at checker because nobody there knew what plugs to run.  Maybe old tach is just incorrect, I had so many things to check and watch that it was almost overwelming but sooo much fun.

Congrats on all your hard work.   I grew up in a 71 Horizon just like yours.  Thousands of good times on that boat.  I gotta post some pics sometime.  Enjoy your summer HorizonJet

could be the tach.  id think you'd be able to tell 3000 rpms vs 5000.  with only 3000 rpms my boat barely even gets on plane.

Congrats on getting the boat out on water. Your base timing and advance sound right. I assume this is is a bbc? If so, you're AC Delco plug should be an R44T

Yes, BBC, HEI, and holley carb.  Thanks for the congrats and hope to see yall out sometime soon.  The plugs they said I needed at Oreily or as I call them Oreally, AC r44xL which are extended tip and I gapped about 60. Thats what I hd them gapped in my Chevelle with a small block and HEI.  Now that I think about it 3k does seem a little low because I had it kinda screaming for a min.  I was just taking it easy since its a fresh motor.

Ours started out a nice metalflaked purple like a bass boat.  Had it re-gelled in the late 80's and got Pepto Bismol PINK!   NO lie.
We learned to live with it for a long time.  Chicks kinda liked it actually.  At least some of 'em did anyhow.
I will try to find some new pics, I understand a resto is underway on it.
