This is something I have been working on for a few years. Winter project. I have done this all myself, engine, paint, all of it. Keeps me too broke to get into other trouble.

That is all mechanical injection. It works way better than any carb setup I have ever used.

I haven't had enough yet, now I am putting together an all aluminum 540...........this is becoming really costly. Hopefully, it doesn't just go bang when I start to use it.

If you do it right it won't go bang hehe. Right isn't cheap so you are definitely not going the wrong route so far.

I just received a quote from a supplier for a spring upgrade I need to do for my new engine. I bought these Dart Pro 1 heads a while back, and I am going to use them on my new engine. Well, they came equipped with "hydraulic roller" springs. So I am using a solid roller. Springs should be good right-no! I thought because the lift was not that excessive that the existing springs would work. I researched, and no; I would be asking for trouble (springs/valves-dropped valve-not worth the risk) and decided I would have to upgrade. Remember, all this shit is new and never been used. So this is another $700.00. And....I still need the proper lifters (needle-less solid rollers), pushrods, starter, oil cooler, and some etc. of course. I will have a brand new set of roller cam springs, spring cups, locks, and retainers that I can put in "stock" though-forever probably. My thought is this, it better make 800+. The turbine is looking better all the time.

who's injection is that , I didn't even know anybody still made a hilborn style mechanical injection, or is that an old hilborn set up ?

That is a Kinsler fuel injection. There are still numerous companies making them. Besides the aforementioned one, there is Hilborne, Enderle, Lucas, and probably others. They are not cheap.

Nice set up. Im a big mechanical injection fan. Everyone told me that it will never work in a boat and that they are not drivable. I drove mine all last season. I just sold an Enderle set up and bought a crower 3" set up. It had Kinsler nozzles and distribution block. The system was set up for alcohol so I called kinsler for the different nozzles. $400+ for the nozzles. I did a little research and found that you can use all the Enderle style nozzles. all new nozzles and the nozzle tips was only about $150 bucks. The nozzles are super cheap too, $5 each. They are flowed as well. I also use hilborn style pills, which are the same as Kinsler pills for about 1/3 of the price. I have a few pictures up here of the set up or you can catch a look at it in Performance Boats magazine in the next few months. The boat was just at a photo shoot for the magazine.

Yes, I had heard that too. People who say these injection systems are not driveable, have never used one obviously. That being said however, if they are not hooked up properly, or something is missing, it would certainly cause issues. When I bought my injection system, I had Kinsler perform all the calibrations, and I pretty much only had to bolt it on. The only thing I ever had to adjust, was the idle speed at first. It was a little high. Other that that, I have never had to touch or adjust anything. I have to add too that Kinsler`s customer service is very good, pricey, but good. The quality remains though, after the price is forgotten.

I bought an old Hilborn set up specifically to build a jet boat around it!! As soon as my current boat project is done, I'll start the search for another hull. Can't wait.

Very nice!!! I have always loved mechanical injection, especially the BBC IR manifolds. Kinsler makes some of the nicest MI parts I have seen. I am running an Enderle hat. x3 on the drivability of mechanical injection. It is a different way of thinking and requires a new learning curve, but just because someone is not able to make it work doesn’t mean that it won’t work. I am so stoked to see more mechanical injection running hard.

The 468 is for sale if somebody wants it. There is really nothing wrong with it that I am aware of. It runs fine, I inspected it last winter, and it hasn't been run since. It is a 560 h.p. engine with all the good parts inside.
