455 H.P.

Need to know what the 455 H.P. is internally? I am thinking that the 455 (H.P.) is "high performance". will the internals be forged ? we are thinking blower but now sure whats in side her.   I have the new name picked out let me know what you all think ...... Numb Nuts.....    I was pulling out of the gas station and this guy was driving buy and as soon as i got behind him he slowed down to about half the posted speed limit ... so the words F...king Numb Nuts just popped out and i said there we go.........

Casting numbers on top of the block behind the water pump is 396021f , head is an e head and the numbers on the left side of the block just below the number 1 hole is L70E 2414

If you go with a blower run ka heads or c heads but i wouldnt on an olds too much money for the manifold theres a tr on cl for 400 right now i keep lookin at and its got the dual quad top id go that way over a blower imo

If your 455 is completly stock, i dont think you have a forged crank the most you can hope for is a N crank.  if your in need of a set of Ka heads let me know i have a spare set.

396021f is a 455 from 68-72 common. Big block , if you plan on putting a blower I would recommend rebuilding it and build a strong bottom end all forged , balanced and blue printed prior to installing a blower and all machine work done by a performance machine shop like dougans in riverside ca.

Also go with a good set of heads to make it breath and rework the oil passages and use a Hv  oil pump with a 10 quart or better pan as olds are known for there oil staying in the top end and not returning to to oil pan fast enough causing them to spin a bearing or few

Some guys go real simple and run an exterior return line.   You will KNOW that the oil isn't staying up top that way.   :thumbup:

Timminator on here always promised a follow up to that one.  It is still pretty much the Everything You Need to Know handbook of Olds engines for boating.

Timinator, a member on here is the one who wrote that article. He is a stand up guy and you can call him with any other questions you might have about building a solid olds.
