I just had my 455 rebuilt. It is .040 Mostly stock other then that. I have run 40w in the past, and was curious what everyone thought about what brand and weight to run.
Totally loaded question.....
Really without knowing how it was prepared and machined all suggestions are just guesses.
How you run it, what the pressure and temperatures are, how tight the tolerances are among a treasure trove of other good stuff all point to the right oil...
Typically can't miss with a high zinc racing oil in a multi viscosity, a good start might be a 20W-40 racing oil, it will be difficult to find, but the low viscosity differential will mean fewer polymers to make the multi vis formula...
You want to look at the viscosity index, should be over 120, this number is the property of how well the oil stays at its rated viscosity at higher temperature swings....The higher the better....
Brands....I don't care what the label says, the facts about the oil can be found.....Just stay away from the "snake oil, feel good, liquid ball bearing bullshit and do the homework...
Good luck
