455 what parts should I use

Hey guys wondering what I should do...I have a Tahiti 16' low pro with a 455 (which is out of a car) Has J heads...stock intake with a qjet. I picked up A set of KA heads, a cam(not sure of the size and going to have a machine shop check it out first of course) and a edelbrock torker manifold...I still need to get a new carb and a pan but my main question is what parts should I put on, cause Im not going to touch the bottom end...I just don't want to dive that deep right now and hopefully in one or two seasons I am going to completely rebuild it. Should I just drop that manifold and new carb on and use it until I rebuild it or? Any help would be great. Thanks!

If u don't do all the oiling mods it won't last 1 season it cost triple to build an old over a chevy

Not true i have no oil mods except a 12qrt pan and my boat runs fine at 5200 for the last 10 years. Just did external oil drains so i can run at 5k all day for the next 10 years

Restricting isnt the answerthe biggest thing is getting the oil back to the pan

Full roller cam and victor jr intake will give 125 hp guaranteed restriction of the main's restricting push rods When I run mine I don't have a prob with to much oil on top end

I was thinking about drilling out the oil drain backs in the heads for external drainage...you do that yourself or have a shop do that?

Did it my self super easy use a 3/8 npt tap just take your time

I agree with Bunger the oil restrictions is not the answer. My Olds blew up do to the lack of oil.

Rushin is right about his Mondello facts. The old man is dead. Joe Mondello passed away in 2011. After leaving so Cal he moved to Paso Robles and opened Mondello Technical School. He later moved it to Crossville TN. By the time he left L.A. his son Bernard was operating his own deal known as Bernard Mondello Racing Engines, currently operating out of a hole in the wall in Corona. His reputation in the industry is not good at all. Terrible businessman and not half the innovator his father was.

Much of the assembly and machine work that made old Joe famous was done by Danny Roslan who operates Danny Roslan Performance in Paso. The last phone number I had was (805)235-1974. He is the "guy" in this area of the country.

And if you want to get an idea of exactly what it takes to build 500, 600, 800 HP with the real world E.T.'s and dyno sheets you could spend a lot of time here http://realoldspower.prophpbb.com/forum12.html I know I did.
