460 baseline 850 carb settings
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:01:56 PM »
Here's my combo
460 Dove A high comp.
Mild cam
Iron CJ intake
Logs
Mech fuel pump
Getting ready to switch up to 850dbl pumper. Looking for baseline jetting and whether I should run power valve on secondary. Note, choke horn removed. Was also thinking of trying reusable bowl/metering plate gaskets. Anyone have any problems with those gaskets?

The stock jets on a list #4781 850DP could be 80 pri/sec or 80 pri, 78 sec depending on what the number is following the list number.

Set it up with stock jetting, run the power valve (probably a 3.5, but you should see how much vacuum your engine is pulling), and start with your idle screws at 1 1/2 turns out.

I don't have a problem with the non-stick gaskets but i'm one that still recommends using Holley parts on Holley carbs.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Cool,  thanks. Carb has been modified and wasn't sure how close stock jetting is. I wanted to use reusable gaskets until I got it dialed in. I have a trick kit full of gaskets, jets, squirter's etc from my bracket racer days. Raced a BBC Nova and still learning as much as possible on the vastly superior BBF.
