I've got a 77' Hallett pushed along the water by a stock 460. I've got a Holley 750 on it and she is tuned perfect here (Torrance,CA) and runs great at the river. Was wondering how much issue I'd have with my jetting in Big Bear

Buddy has a condo up there with a private dock soooo why not right??

Lived in Big Bear for 7 Years, Had the boat on about 3 maybe 4 times.
Pump salad- at the shores, especially if the lake is low. Not usually a problem.
You will loose ~30% hp @ 7000 ft. Mine ran better than the speed limit, 35, even with 4 people

I wouldn't/didn't jet/rejet for Big Bear, Just run a lil more timing, 5* more should be O.K. (I never touched mine)
Get a lake permit. get a ticket without one.
You will get inspected, quagga mussel thing.

I have no idea why this app put the confused face when I typed "lol"....

I guess I towed my barge to Big Bear quite a bit...usually from the river. Hwy 18 from Lucerne has a 16% grade.
Now I pull Union Pass, longer and steeper than the grapevine from Bakersfield 

I wouldn't do it from the standpoint of wear n tear on the tow rig just to have a less than stellar boating experience.  The lake will be windy and choppy and I think tubing is outlawed.  Parking your rig at your buddies house may be problematic too.  But as always, my advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Tubing and skiing are still allowed. Less than stellar? Better than sittin at home. Better than this 120* we're in now. 85* and in the pines sounds good to me and way better than Elsinore.

Big bear is where I used to live and I had my boat in a slip almost all summer long at pleasure point marina.. I never had a problem with lake patrol or "po po" sherrifs usually only go out on the holiday weekends. And as far as quagla mussel check it isn't that bad.. just make sure you get to the ramp earlier in the day that way you don't have to wait.. I have a 460 with a mild cam and OT headers and never got messed with.. I've done well over 35 mph up there. (You just gotta look for LP and make sure they aren't visible lol) as far as jetting I had a jet kit already so I put 74's in it. Before it was running 78's and that was for the river.. with the 74's it ran a lil rich but was a lot better than black shit all over my transom. Oh and prepare for high gas prices up there lol. If you get the chance to go out the the bars hit up Murray's I've got 2 friends up there with jets and I also know of a couple flatties running up there

Its a nice place have fun, I sure as hell miss the fresh air and the scenery up there. The summers are so nice up there!

Check out the cable wake park at pleasure point if you get a chance! My buddy owns it and a number of my friends help run it! Its called Designated wake sports tell them Phil sent ya and they'll hook you up!
