Hey Guys,
Really need some help!
I have no fuel issues, Have spark, set dizzy to #1 spark plug wire, i have compression, turns over. rechecked all wiring. everything seems to be wired correctly. Could it be a carb issue? Please help i have no idea whats going on. Really thinking about going postal and burning the whole thing to the ground.

Fresh motor or run before
-
it ran great before all of last year. I had replaced was the distributor ( which has all of it has continuity and spark plug wires) and changed the headers to logs.
-
Was motor at tdc when you put in distributer and put on #1wire
-
yes it was. I even had put it to 12 degrees like suggested by others. I have tried both scenarios. ( my timing chain has not jumped. I know ill get that question)
-
Sorry have to ask. Scratching my head to. Don't know if you messed with valve adjustment but had mine a little to tight once and wouldn't start
-
ya i never messed with the valves or the head. I losing my mind. I had thought i had checked off everything off of the "List".
-
I'll keep scratching good luck
-
Thank you, Im doing something wrong im not sure what i have done.
-
Did you do 12 btdc or after?
-
What dizzy did you have before and what do you have now?
-
12 after tdc. And i had a msd magnetic dizzy. now i have a generic magnetic dizzy from amazon. But the thing is both are generating spark to number 1 and 5 if i have the firing order correct. Ive tried both tracking that both maybe bad. But both have the same result. Idk

I think thats the problem it should be btdc. 12 degrees initial .

How strong is the spark off the coil? Why did you replace the distributor?
How do you know it's on number one compression?
Should be 12° before tdc, does it pop?
To eliminate fuel as a cause, squirt some down the holes.
Keep a fire extinguisher close by.

So we are talking 12 btdc correct not 12 atdc right?

Also make sure its on compression stroke when you set the distributor.
-
Yes before tdc
-
Ya im on the compression stroke. 12 degrees btdc. And have also tried tdc on the compression stroke. I take some photos tomorrow.

B.o.a.t bust out another tallcan. You'll figure it ou.

Gt jets,
Ill do that.. Im very positive its on the #1 spark plug.
I have ran a mediocre compression test everything came up okay.

How bright is the spark?
Did you try grounding the distributor housing?
It should at least release a Taco Bell fart out of the carburetor of it was a timing thing. (You guys know what I'm talking about, lol).

Who is the manufacturer of this new distributor out of curiosity?? I chased my tail last season because of a junk procomp piece of chit!!! O0
Your Friendly local v-drive owner

Does he know that ford firing order and say Chevy firing order is not the same? Just checking... Someone that has never played with a ford that can throw them off lol

I know when we put the new engine together we accidentally put the distributor 180 out, lots of popping out the carb with white smoke.
Also had a vacuum leak. After fixing that stuff she ran.

No doubt. My pops always said if it aint broke dont get cute and make changes.
-
Make sure your distributor is not 180 out. Did the same on mine, pull it, set TDC and Re stab.

Gotta have spark first. If not, it's not wired right.
-
Hey guys there is spark coming from both magnetic distributors both work ok ran all of the tests i could think of. Checking also the magnetic pick up from the msd box. Everything is checking out fine. I have it on the number one spark plug and have checked all continuity from the cap to the end of the spark plug.. All is checks fine. Both distributors are not working. Even changed out the coil. I have set it 12 ntdc and tdc.

180 out would imply i would be on the exhaust stroke correct?

They both now how ever are working correctly

Proud American.
yes, 180* out would mean that it is trying to fire on the exhaust stroke instead of compression.
1 more thing to check is make sure your firing order is in the correct direction it could be all right but going in the wrong direction.
Is it backfiring out of the carb at all?

Short builders tip-
When the timing chain 'dots' are lined up, the engine will be firing on the cylinder that is 180* from #1. (#6 on a BBF, BBC, SBC)
After the motor is buttoned up, turn the crank 1 full turn before dropping the dizzy in.

Where do you live? Maybe someone is close and could stop by and help

Its going the correct way. I going to pull off the timing chain cover and check out the gears and chain. Some thing one timing has to be off or a stuck valve? Idk

Ya dude im going to try this.. Ill let you know the results.

So if I'm reading this right, it ran up until you replaced the distributor?
-
Ok who's in Yorba linda that can cruise by and help ? 2 heads are better than one. I personally suggest setting #1 piston TDC, assure mark is lined up on balancer @ zero and pull dizzy cap and see if the rotor is pointing at the #1 hoke on the cap. If you've done this exactly you should know what direction to go to correct.
-
A quick check of the firing order on the cap?
Counter clockwise from number 1: 15426378
-
So everything in the timing category seems to be okay.. Unless you guys see something im overlooking. Fuel pressure is at 6 to 7 psi and i have spark at the plug. But i doesnt look strong. Thinking it might be the msd box.

So bypass the msd.

Trigger wire from distributor straight to the negative dose of the coil, 12v to the positive side of the coil, disconnect the box and hit the key.

This will trigger the magnetic pick-up? Im sorry im slightly confused.

You don't need a cd box to run a conventional ignition system.
The box just modifies the signal to coil. It doesn't "create" anything. So if you remove the wires from the box, why wouldn't it work?
GT

He's right.

There is also a was to check your msd box. Google that.
