Air scoop

Guys I need some advise i have a closed engine compartment and I know that its hot under their and the carburetor is taking in hot air. I have a Dooley single carb scoop and thinking of cutting the roof of the engine compartment to let the scoop stick out a little. My thoughts the carb getting cooler air and heat leaving the engine area. My hood only has two vents at the rear of the hood. Any advice would be great.

Just throwing this at you.

You will not really see to much of a performance gain if the carburetor is getting enough air.

I have cut in dummy speaker grills and added a heater coil from a school bus with some fans with lake water going through it.

Performance has been very good knock on wood. For a stock bbc turn key so far but just worried about the hot air thing hell 20 lb of ice is gone at the end of the day because of the heat under their. Not looking to pick up horse power just thinking about long term.

Do you have any pictures of the engine bay? Better yet, what model boat?

A scoop on the cover is not going to make the ice last longer. Lol.

We jammed so much air into a Carrera Elite that we had to install latches to keep the cover down. Lol

I like the flat deck lid.

Look up school bus heater core and get a couple of cheap 12v fans. Run the water to the engine through it.

BOOM. You could drop the temp in there by 20°F. Depending on the lake water temp of course.

Do you have blower vents anywhere on that boat? If the engine compartment is completely sealed that could turn into a dangerous situation also. I haven't had a boat with a covered engine compartment in a long time but i do rember I always had blower vents somewhere to vent gas fumes out of the engine compartment.

The last one I had like that had air vents on the side of the hull to scoop air into the engine compartment and when you were just floating you could turn the auxiliary blowers on to suck the hot air out through the rear vents incidentally pulling air in through the front vents. I never noticed a over heated engine compartment. Maybe add a couple vents to the front of your cover somehow like GT said that may be all you need, Just a thought...

Engine temperature is good, but just knowing that it gets warm, hot under their I figured that some ambient temperature to the carb could be better than what I have under there now. Would the carburetor need rejecting if this scoop got installed?

No, you would not need to change any of that. You should try and get creative with the vents though instead of the scoop. I always liked a nice flat engine cover that envites the ladies to sunbathe on there... lol

No its a aluminum cp performance scoop 10 in wide 16in long 5in tall and tapers towards the rear.

To counter heat involved issues, run a fuel system/inline cool can. Dry ice if you're froggy or big block of regular ice and water. Drop inlet fuel temp up to 30-40 degrees before delivery.

Heat in the engine bay is normal, counter it effectively and wisely.
