Ok. So I saw a video about a guy who used water to run a car. Me being the ever curious guy I am, decided to do a little research and see what the fuss is about. Seemed logical to me, and I'm tired of getting fisted everytime I filled up with gas. So this little water fuel contraption claims to give 25% at least increase in fuel economy. At 12 miles to the gallon thats going to save me some coin. So I did the absolute dumbest thing and went ahead and ordered the plans. Seems simple enough, I have most of the shit laying around. The real question will be what happens when I build this thing. Will I smoke the motor? Or will I seriously injure myself? This little project will be done this weekend. I have a mpg meter on the truck so I will be able to tell in a short amount of time if this thing works. Probably be able to tell it doesn't work when the fucking motor sends pistons through the hood and I'm really fucked. So, am I :screwy: for trying this out? This is a true act of desperation, due to the fact that to go to the lake for a weekend is running me about 250 bones for fuel alone, not to mention driving during the week.

ok...I saw this thing online also but would never even try it on one of my cars! But I wouldnt mind someone i know potentially emplodding there motors!
I would consider a few things before installing:
1. How new is the car/truck?
2. Is it still under warranty?
3. Do you have the skills and or money to repair anything/everything that goes wrong?
But please let us all know if it works! Gas is F'in killing me!

A friend of mine saw that on line and thought he would run a little test. He took a jug of water, some baking soda, 2 stanless rods and hooked it up to a battery charger. Let it run for a minite, stuck a lighter over the water and got a flash as the hydrogen burned. This was a very small scale experament, but at the same time pretty cool. He showed it to us last week.

Sounds like you need to buy something a little smaller..... like a Honda Kick-N-Go >:D ;D

Just do a search on the internet for hydrogen generator. You should come up with all kinds of ideas. I don't know the exact website I went to I was bouncing around alot. Although I just talked to a friend of mine back home and I mentioned this little project. He said his mechanic talked to him about installing a similar system for 1200. Said he could take his civic up to 60 mpg. I'm gaining some confidence here. I will keep you posted, see how things turn out. And gee OC, thanks for the vote of confidence. But to answer your questions, no its not under warranty, and I have an emergency stash (the u.s. government's dime) for repairs should something go catastrophically wrong.

I just think its one of those things your friend does to his car and we all sit around drinking when he fires it up for the first time and one of his pistons ends up on the roof of the house....come on that would just be funny as hell! ;D
All of my cars are still under warranty except my 350Z which is an '03 that only has 35,000 miles on it(play toy) and I wouldnt do it to those. Although my friend has a '99 corolla with 120k+ miles that I wouldnt mind talking him into doing this to.
Let me know how it goes, This is one of those things I want to see on mythbusters! ;D

i picked up a DRZ400s dual sport dirtbike. i get 55 miles to the gallon and i can take it on the trials as well as the road. i now spend 8 dollars a week in gas cost.
i do have a bbc jet boat, a 34 foot diesel rv, a 83 k5 diesel blaser, and a huge f350 diesel on 38 inch tires. so if i take any of those out it throws my gas budget right thru the roof. but my garage looks cool..hahaha

Just convert to propane< $2.15/gallon, 105 octane, easy to store, and not as hard to buy as you might think.

Not good , but still alittle cheaper than most gas stations . Last time I filled a propane cylinder up , it cost $12 .

It normally doesn't cost me that much but I needed a cylinder filled so I went to a local Shell station that could do it. :screwy:

I just watched a bad asssed video on the net about using water for power. It was a 2 1/2 minute clip of a Fox News Special. Bad asssed! This guy made a torch that was purely powered by water, yes flames were coming out of the torch tip. :o The guy demo'd cutting brick, lead, metal, etc... and then driving to work one day :banghead: he figured out he might be able to power his Escort with water. Cha ching! It's a done deal now, he drives his car to work in a gasoline/water powered hybrid. He's currently in talks with the US military, a american auto manufacturer, and has been invited to Congress to show a demo of his contraption. The military is wanting him to modify a Hummer to run on gasoline or water (I thought military Hummer's were diesels?).
The funny thing is this guy can figure out how to power a torch and a car with water and I can't figure out how to copy and paiste a link to the Windows Media file that shows the vid. LMFAO. :D

Almost done with the construction, should be testing wed or thurs. And our hummers run on gas.

Allright, the first prototype was built and tested as shown in the pics. After hooking everything up and giving it a test run, about two minutes of idle time, the idle on my expy smoothed a bit, not a whole lot but a noticable change. However, due to lack of quality materials ( stainless steel line is the most important) i got heavy corrosion on the electrode lines, as expected, which I was hoping for to show that it was doing what it was supposed to do. So I consider this stage 1 of testing a success, and am looking to build another prototype. So if anyone has some scrap stainless steel laying around, I could really use it.

In my reading and understanding of what goes on, two things might have caused this. 1. Due to an excessive enrichment of the fuel/air mix, the timing was not retarded enough to allow for proper ignition. For example, if you were set at 8 deg before top dead center, and the plug fired, the resultant explosion what be faster, actually trying to drive the piston down on the up stroke, thereby causing a bent or broken rod. 2. You possibly didnt run a leaner amount of fuel, which would do the same thing. Thats sort of the point of this, if your running leaner, but getting the same results, viola, better fuel economy. So let the experimentation continue!

Get a materials list put together and I'll see what I can get together, I'm a pipefitter and know a lot of Med-gas process fitters, and now I'm more than a little curious. Need to know the size (diameter), lentgh(s) mainly because it will probably be scraps I gen get for free :sly:, and what material (stainless tube comes in a variety of types i.e.; 304 polished,brushed, electro polished etc, and same for 316 stainless) 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and so on, the less "picky" the more I could come up with.

316 is what the general consensus is. What I am looking for is stainless steel wire, I'd like to do my next setup with the same config in the pics I put up prior. Sheet stainless wouldn't be bad either, would require a design change but doable. Science is great isn't it? Makes me feel like I'm in hs again. I can probably work with any type of scrap and make something happen, but its hard to tell. The main issue was when the h2o split, the oxy coroded the hell out of the galvanized I was using. This happend in a matter of five minutes. Looks like it had been out in the rain for about 2 years. Interesting stuff nontheless.

The zinc probably played with the results too? ??? Sheet stainless 316 is a piece of cake, I have some random scraps that I make "stuff" with, I have about 30# of random sizes and all are about 8" by 40" and about 16 guage or so. Also what size wire are we talking about, the first thought was wire rope (tiller cable) thats typically 304 though, not as corrosion resistant as 316, if smaller try safety wire? But I'm just throwing out audibles, very possibly full of crap ::) Its easy to be happy when you don't know any better ;D ;D ;D

Its got to be 316 due to the harsh environment. I could definately work with the sheet those sizes are def doable. Wouldn't even need that much maybe two or three sheets of the 8 by 40. Is that bendable? I'm not to familiar with the gauges of sheet metal. How much to ship to Twentynine Palms Ca? I would pay for it. Its gotta be cheaper than buying, sheet metal prices are throught the roof down here.

Don't know about the shipping, but bendable? with a brake you could make square bends, it will also bend into maybe a 12" radius befor kinking, 16 ga. is approximately what a modern cars sheet metal is, pretty substantial. I apologize because I haven't read about what it is you need to build, what is the stainless for?

Its what forms the electrode. When you pass electricity through it, it splits the water into a hydrogen/oxygen gas. This causes an extreme enviroment, I can show you pics of what happens after about 5 mins. Its instant corrosion, looks like its been sitting in the rain for years. Stainless will stand up to it for an a period of time but will eventually break down. Copper is useless it corrodes to easy, galvanized alum is a waste of time as I found out. The stainless is the most cost effective material I can find to test with. Thats the short answer. But I can use it. Its a neat project though. We have alot of time on our hands up here in the desert.

I am going to see how to get you some stuff! I am very curious now, for long term would you have to use titanium or what?, what about gold plating the copper? I don't know just thinking out loud. I have a buddy that lives in Quartsite, anywhere near you? (he's literally on the strip) too lazy to look it up ;D

Or #3). I washed the engine and standing water on the intake leaked thu a bad intake gasket and filled up 2 & 4, turned the key and produced pretzels!
