Backwards or forwards

The scoop that is . I heard that in some cases , facing forwards , they can cause a bit of terbulance (sp?) and negatively affect performance . Yes I know all the super fast drag guys run them forward . Not everyone is a super fast drag guy though .

Yes it can cause an over charge but it looks cooler !
As long as there are hole in the bottom or back of the scoop you would be fine, except if you get roosted. Then you will eather have very clean pistons tops or a hydro-locked engine.

Not nessicarily me but in general . I personally run mine backwards . As you know .

I used to hate 'em on backwards, the first thing I did when i got my boat is turn the scoop around forward. After a while I just decided the lines fit the boat better backwards.

in jet circle boat racin, i would perfer mine backwards to avoid getting water sucked down the carb in the event of getting roosted......depending on the scoop, i think they look cooler facing forward....

but isnt it a USCG mandated thing to have it race backwards? i remember reading that somewhere. not sure if its ever been enforced.

Not sure about racing but I once heard the reason you face it backwards is so if you have a big back fire the flame shoots out the back of the boat instead of in the direction of who ever happens to be sitting in the back seat. I have a full engine cover so what the fuk do I know ;D

My understanding was if it's facing forward it has to have a flame arrestor in it, if backwards it doesn't.

[/quotBack in the day, we use to go to the river with a guy who had a real nice Southwind. Had the old school foward facing fiberglass scoop. Whenever he started it, we all leaned to the outside just incase of the backfire/flamethrower.

A flame arrestor would be ok since the butterflies would hide it most of the time.

I was told by the lake patrol that legally you need a flame arrestor if the scoop faces forward in an uncovered engine bay.
