Interesting... hadn't heard an LSx style starter would work on an earlier SBC/BBC.  If that's the case I'd highly recommend getting an LQ9 starter (same KW rating as Corvette) because it has more reinforcement in the mounting area.  The passenger car starters only have a small flange on one side which can break if there's a kick-back or hydro-lock.  If that happens all the starter's torque is transferred to the 1 remaining bolt.  At best the bolt will bend, at worst it'll snap off and possibly take a chunk of bock with it.  Common problem on LS1s that can be avoided by using the truck starter. Google it
