bilge pumps

What's everyone running for bilge pumps? Where are your water dumps from the bilge pump? I have a rule 500 gph on a switch on my dash and was thinking about switching to an automatic 750 gph. Would it wire up the same with the existing wires to my current pump? Does anyone have one of these self contained automatic bilge pumps? I'm not talking about the separate float switch. Just the ones where its all in the pump. The more I think about it the more I think I should just leave it alone. What do you guys think? Thanks.

ok just an oppion! the old rule comes to mind here if it aint broke dont fix it. leave well enough alone.

, I know it's less than a 500) with a seperate float switch that will override my dash switch if it's turned off.

i run 2 for good reasons

one is a 500 and the one that has the seperate float switch is a 450...the one that has the automatic float switch i use a 3 posistion switch on the dash, one pull out and it is in auto float mode, second pull out it is manual override...has worked good for me for a couple of years now...

I have a Rule 500 with an auto float that has power at all times and I have it wired to a switch on the dash that I can use when the ignition is on. This works good so far, 3/4" hose and the 500 moves some good volume when I have had to use it.

I have two on my boat. The main is an automatic 750gph pump that if needed I can control via a standard push/pull switch on the dash. The back-up is a manually operated 500 gph unit that is also controlled via a standard push/pull switch on the dash. The automatic has power running to it at all times as long as the battery is connected. I have two 3/4" water dumps located at the rear of the boat. As HaulsBalls stated, a 500gph unit w/ a 3/4'' hose moves plenty of water.

i bought a monster gpm rule but it didnt fit in my bilge at its lowest point... it would hit the bellhousing. so i switched to a pair of smaller pumps... one auto and one manual. the auto's flap thing doesnt even budge unless there was a flood and the other one i have to run maybe 5 seconds before its suckin air.

I installed a three pump system for a friends Daytona once. One manual in each sponson and an automatic in the center pod. The automatic is there so if your beached and the boat is left alone for a while it will drain if some A-hole puts a big roller over the transom while beached. Worked like a champ.
