It has been a long time, but I think we just removed the exhaust logs in order to get to the freeze plugs on the 455 olds in a 21' Fresno cruiser. However, if you need to raise up the motor in order to get access, I would just take off the clamp where the bell housing attaches to the jet, undo the front mounts, and hoist the front of the motor just enough to do the job. I'd also try to keep the driveline on the jet spline because sometimes it is tough to slip it back on.

Thanks for your responses, you answerd my my question.Now I will proceed with the job at hand. I just bought the boat, it's a 72 Reinnell 18'. The previous owner didn't get all the water out of it before he stored it and we live in Minnesota.He had drained the water by removing all the drain plugs and thought that was good enough. The engine was allso leaking oil, owner thought the block was cracked but he had crossthreaded the oil filter so it was leaking. No oil water mixing in the pan (yet). Gave him 500 bucks for boat and trailer with new license on both and new v-belt on engine. I'd send a pic but don't know how yet. Thanks everyone. Brad

Oh ya the Frost Plug I need to replce is the rear on the left side of the engine next to the starter. I also have a exhaust manifold leak on that same side so I'm removing that two. In order to get at the manifold bolts I need too raise the engine probably 6 inches to get a tool up into the manifold to remove the bolts.

OK, THIS I gotta see pics as to why......Not that you're not right, just ain't seen a manifold that would require that.....

PS, avoid pulling the engine, needed to get it THAT high. Getting that shaft off the input of the pump can be a bear.....no pun intended, and putting it back in even more fun sometimes! Takes two guys sitting in front of the engine with their feet on it and their backs pressed up against the front seats to wiggle Moo's back on!

I have seen some be pretty stubborn but I can do the two jets we have here in under 20 minutes by myself, have had some fight a little, but never too bad....If you use too much extreme pressure grease they can hydraulic and hand you your ass, but otherwise not too tough. The trick is to put the D.L. in the pump first, then the motor, if a three point mount system, they're a little tougher.
