Not a boat but my 1981 c-10. I just wired up duel electric fans and used a 185* switch. My question is should I get a thermostat to match so they work together

I had the same on my 63 c-10.  It didn't shit off unless I was in cold weather.

Right now it's installed next to the thermostat no not adjustable I found a new one on summit rated 180-200 seems it would be better then the one I got the one I currently have is 165-185 I just don't see it ever cooling dwn to 165  I ran the truck for an hour and the fans stayed running and it's 50*outside

Why do you want it to shut off?

I don't understand.

When I do electric, I use two switches. With a bypass switch if you have AC.

One on the stat, typically cuts in at 180° and out at 165°, the second either in the radiator down low or in the water pump that cuts in at 160° and out at 150°. These would be installed in series. The air conditioner would be on a switch around both and would be on the high side of the compressor.

The one that would cut it off going down the road would be the water pump one. The water leaving the thermostat will always be at or above 180°.


It will seldom cycle at idle like a four cylinder because of the added mass.

As far as a kit it's bits and pieces from other builds I had layer around figured it would be better then the clutchless fan I had mounted to the water pump. No a/c yet but when that happens I will definitely wire it up as so

I always just run the fan on switch a few degrees above the thermostat temp... that way they kick on after the water starts circulating. And x2 on the a/c kick on.

I read it as at idle.

The power to the relay Sikhs be cut off with the ignition. No reason at all to run a fan when the engine is off.

I mean that certainly makes sense... but he didn't say with the ignition off... and the only time I think they would turn off if the off setting was at that low below the thermostat... idle or whatever, would be if the engine is off.

Did that read like I was thinking it in my head?😜


I mean with a 180 stat... and the off on the fan is 165... it should never turn off unless the ignition was off or if constantyl wired hot... if the motor cooled off.

you read wright I was just expecting it to cycle but do to the off temp of 165 it isn't.  I'm going to buy a new sensor that is off at 180 on at 195 that way it doesn't run all the time    On a side note my 15 year old alternator isn't to happy with these fans 😂

Relocate the sensor/switch.

Why run a 180° thermostat and keep the water at 195°?

By "in a box", do you mean you have one?

If the sensor is designed to be put under the hose at a fitting, I would do that.

Install it at the bottom hose of the radiator and set it for 165°F.

Done.

This one has a prob that goes in the radiator fins and yes I have it controls fan speed and temp adjustments

Use that, as low in the radiator as possible, dob of silicone on each side to hold it. Set it at 165°F and let her buck.
