im looking into getting a 10 quart 454 oil pan. will i need a longer pickup tube to reach down to the oil in the deeper pan? i feel like a retard asking some of these questions but im not a V8 guy really i can get around them. so just bear with me. also is there any different oil pan gasket that i would need to get? pan bolts those kind of things. if any one has any pictures of any motor with after market oil pans and all the goodies that need to be added. thanks for alot of all your help SCJB

Hey Beav, the pick-up on my Dooley is just a factory POS, because my pan uses a factory "blank" and is added on to. The pick-up needs to mach the pan and sometimes still need to be "tweaked" to fit right (too close to the bottom, or too far away) I think most of the time the pan manufacturer will tell you what pick-up works best.
As far as gaskets and crap, I used four 5/16" studs on the corners and factory style bolts with star washers for the rest of the 1/4" bolt holes, and FelPro OEM style gaskets work fine for me, I have seen some people use the silicone one-piece gasket but don't know if they are worth the money.
A good quality windage tray is recomended, mine is just a Moroso kit that I got from a swapmeet for $15, but test fit them first to make sure the friggen dipstick goes through the hole in the tray, mine was about an inch off so I used an electrical knock out punch to do the "adjustment".
I have three different pans sitting in my shop, if you need I can take a couple of pics to show how different they are, its pretty suprising. My old boat had a Milodon "jetboat" pan and was pretty nice, but this boat got the "Swapmeet" treatment early on, so nothing is really "virgin" if you know what I mean....
