Chevy crankshaft clearance

What is the ideal crankshaft clearance for a chevy motor on the mains and rod bearings? I am going to tear down my lower end and check the clearance on the rods and mains...........I have a feeling it will not be right

general rule of thumb is .001 for every inch of journal

plastigauage is junk, get a mic and bore guage

All i know is that if i have to take this thing to the machine shop to get corrected, i will sell it first!! save some money and buy a turn key boat

PLastigauge is just a quick check, I'd say about .003 should work

That is what pre-assy is for... too check clearances, etc. THEN, final assy.

Thanks guy's but the wife and i came to a conclusion.. Im selling the 454 and im gonna build a bigger motor

Maybe by next summer i will be getting wet

I hate to say it, but this just doesn't make much sense. Complete the engine you have and get it in the boat. Use it to "shake down" this new-to-you boat and work all the bugs out, while at the same time enjoying a summer of boating. It will also give you a chance to see if the boat needs more power or if it can even safely handle it. You can start collecting parts for a bigger engine as cash flow provides. I've seen too many people fall into the trap of making plans for bigger, better, faster, only to end up selling a never completed project.

Again, finish what you have now and get out and enjoy the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

. Seriously , finish it up and just enjoy being on the water . When is enough , enough ? It never is , you'll just be chasing your tail for the rest of your life . Pick someone to advise you on how to put your motor together and stick to his regiment . When you focus in on your goal it'll be done in no time . Thanks its only obviouse(sp) im lost in this.....

Well i looked on ebay for a mild or used chevy 454 cam. i will do that if i can find one cheap..
My machine shop has another block for me Freshly punched out 040 i think i will build this one next off season..

So if anyone has or know where to find a cheap and i do mean cheap cam / lifters let me know.

I've got an Edelbrock Performer RPM cam/ Missing 1 lifter used a couple seasons. It's has a 565/ 570 lift and I'll be in Havasu on the 17th. If it will work for you and you pick up in Havasu its yours for free.Thats if you finish this damn motor and get that boat in the water this season. Ron

buy a new one ebay search falcon global they have them cheap as well as everything you can imagine I have a few rollers but they are probly way to big for what you want........new lifter on old cam=flat lobe for sure just a matter of time
