Cleaning

I bought a Indmar exhaust. I was wondering how to clean it and make it shine again?

Heavy jewelers Rouge and a good high speed polisher.

I have used a Harbor Freight baking soda blaster on aluminum and I have to say, I was shocked.

Be sure to pull them apart and replace the riser gaskets.

Copper silicone. Light torque. Let it dry. Then final torque. If you want to use a gasket just use a light coat of silicone on both sides of gasket. Also light torque, then let it dry, then final torque. Both ways has worked well for me. But i used logs for one boat and manifolds for another.

Use gaskets on the risers, high temp RTV on the manifolds to heads.

I use these folks for a lot of the crap I need.

GT, what's the difference between logs and these center rise manifolds? Do they flow substantially better, a little better, or they're about the same?

Center risers are more header like, in that the porting is much more even length than that of a standard log.

They scavenge much more effectively IMO.

I don't.
On the gaskets between similar metals I either use Permatex number 2 or Hylomar.

Hardinmarine.com sells both the gasket and a stainless steel block off plate. The block off plate is cheap insurance.

Yeah, on my last boat, I had the same Indmar manifolds. I sandwiched that block off plate between two gaskets and called it good. I liked knowing that the water that is supposed to be cooling the motor isn't going straight out the exhaust riser.

I thought they were a fantastic upgrade from the logs. The motor breathed better, sounded better, and just flat out ran better.
You know, with all of these boat inspections at local lakes. Being failed for having a single drop of water in the bilge is outrageous. Switching to the Indmars made it so much easier to clean under the motor. That is another benefit I really enjoyed.

Cool sounds like they were a good choice. I'm looking forward to getting them on my boat. Where do you boat at most of the time?
