CLR through water jacket?

Resealed my risers on Sunday. I noticed a lot of calcium/scale buildup in the manifolds, like a lot. Anybody ever run CLR through a cooling system?

Also I got a handful of sand and small rocks out of the riser on passenger side that was packed in there.. explains why my exhaust tip on that side has some tan bit of hue to it.

CLR is not supposed to be used on aluminum.

Anyone got any idea of what to run through the jacket to get good percentage of the buildup out? Muratic acid and water?

Don't really care about cosmetic effects, its only going through the jacket, not gonna polish the valve covers with it.

i cant wait till the day when my boat is so clean and perfect that im worried what the inside of my water jackets look like. LOL. sounds like you need another boat to keep you busy!

Haha, probably not. Mine needs a valve job at the end of season... Maybe that will make me happy.

Then again, probably not. I want an engina compartment that will put 82Daytona's to shame.

"Muriatic acid is a dilute solution of concentrated hydrochloric acid. This is considered a "strong" acid. It will rapidly dissolve aluminum( forming aluminum chloride) but not harm any of your rubber hoses or other plastic parts."

I wouldn't do it. But hey what do I know.

just take everything off your engine and have it redone in polished aluminum and stainless.

I'll buy that. But I don't think CLR will eat its way out of my manifolds.

See if you can find some mechanical contractor buddies to score you a couple of leftover gallons of Rydlyme.. http://www.rydlyme.com/home.html

Basically a buffered electrolyte.

I have some at the shop, but it would cost a small fortune to get it to you (stupid heavy)...

Get a small pump and just circulate it around for about an hour, they will come out like brand new with little to no corrosion....

I use about 200 gallons a year cleaning condensers and towers. Works pretty good for a biodegradable solvent....Rather use Muriatic acid, but you can't have it all.

That's the method I was thinking. I have an extra RV house freshwater pump. Hook it to water inlet from the jet and pump till it trickles from exhaust then let it sit a few hours, flush then refill. Followed by a quick trip to a local lake.. after flushing as thoroughly as I can.

Only know of the standard type, don't know of any other. Check their website tho

i guess thats why mine is so clean. when it gets back from the river ive usually noticed something needs to be upgraded or whatnot and i pull the motor out and it drains on a stand. haha.
