Question is valve spring New used or abused.
 Is it a single or duel spring with dampener ?
 what is you budget like ?
If old motor and you have some money pull both heads
have them checked. cheaper than a new motor.
Have new springs , retainer and locks in staled NO USED JUNK.
spend money on new valves & guides, 5 angle valve job, A lot eraser
to fix know than learn to walk on water.

Well I lucked out ....kinda of... it wasn't a collapsed spring it was a broken lifter , I mean Really broken . I tryed fishing the broke piece out but it must have fell in the pan . I am going to dump the oil and try to flush it out . Really dont want to pull the motor. I am just looking for one more season out of this motor . One question is my intake runners on my heads our really nasty . They look like exhaust ports . Is this normal in a boat? Part of me wants to pull them off and hot tank them since i have the intake off but it ran great like this before the broken lifter . I am going to replace all lifters. At the minimum.

Dude........what you've done here is worn a hole in the contact surface of the lifter. The cam is flat, period. It may run on the bandaid for a little while but start lookin for a cam...and another set of lifters.

Worn flat? You can see where the top of lifter sheared off . The guy at my local speedshop said it looks like It had fatigued and maybe i floated the valves and it gave way . Which could have been a possibility due to A wot run in choppy water . The lobe is still there and looks fine. I flushed the motor  twice already . i know I am taking a risk by not tearing down the motor , but like I said I Need the rest of the season and I have a longblock waiting for a few final touches to be dropped in

You wont find the "piece"....It is now in the form of crankshaft honing abrasive...

If you get three hours out of it, I'll eat my words, but that deal is done.......Sorry bro...Hope I'm way off.

Changed all the lifters , flushed the motor with atf and two filters and oil changes . The initial oil didnt look contaminated . But who knows . Same compression I had 6 months ago and it , seems to run fine . I am going to take it out and give her a work out at my local lake to see if any problems come to fruition . Rather have it happen 15 minutes from home than 4 hours at the river . Hopefully I lucked out . I believe theres a bet on here for three hours it will last lol ...... who knows ?

Yes I did re break in the cam with comp cams assembly lube. I was kidding about the bets for three hours ... I know too I will be lucky if it stays together the rest of the season . Wheres Obama with my stimulus package for my new motor lmao
