Your right a gate would probly work just fine.  I just like dissin the gate cause its twists your panties.

All BS aside I have had gates they worked on my past boats
  On my current boat I could not get my block pressure down. Larger dumps didnt matter.
 The solution that worked on my setup was the relief setup.  I don't wanna get the guy off track to a solution.  A gate is cheap.  He has a RV already and as mentioned he has restriction in the block.  Im sure he will get it with his gauge and get her going good again

Stupid problem....when I dropped motor in oil pan was on top of inlet hose from jet constricting some flow, moved hose to side and secured then adjusted my pressure relief valve and problem solved

I just re routed my water lines to try to plan for that. Glad to hear I was thinking right. Also glad it is fixed.
